WarrenJ
That's a shame Mike. The car had so many good points. You'll enjoy the next even more and remember the old girl fondly I'm sure. --Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. Texas Jim
Mike, I really hate to hear that. I always thought that was a really nice looking Cadillac. I know it must be painful to let it go. It was for me...when I got rid of the Sedan de Ville I had for 21 years. It was almost like a part of the family. Like Bruce said...when you get ready for another one...come to Texas. Ill have another Cadillac at some point, driving this Monte Carlo is painful, Mike, I know all too well and I feel your pain. Since the Monte Carlo and the Impala use the same service manual, just let me know if you need anything from the service manual. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans.

ted tcb
Never thought I would see the day you would retire the Deville. Boy, you sure put a lot of time into getting the suspension and AC issues sorted out. Cadillac's are such a part of your life, I hope you get back into one very soon. BodybyFisher
Thanks everyone, KHE sent me an email the other day saying, why junk it, you did so much work to it. Ted you have a great memory of the work I did to it. I really want an STS, even if I fix this car, which I loved, it would not be exactly what I wanted. It would have cost an arm and a leg to rebuild the engine the way I wanted to, so I figured I would give you. My first plan of attack is to buy a work van, I started a new career direction and really don't have time or the space to rebuild a NS, not one with a deep knock and oil pressure problems anyway Thanks for all of the kind words, this was tough to do Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
JimD
....I really want an STS, even if I fix this car, which I loved, it would not be exactly what I wanted. Mike: Welcome to the reality of the future. Newer passenger vehicles are going to be smaller than your Deville. A lot smaller! Good luck finding a 1998-2003 Seville STS that you would want to own. You certainly won't find one at a Cadillac dealership. In my area, even (smaller) 2004+ V8 STS model used cars are rare on Cadillac dealer's web pages. The vast majority of "new car" buyers abandoned V8 engines many years ago. Hence no trade-ins. I do get your emotional connection to your Deville (I feel the same way about my '98 STS), there will come a time when I have to step back and make the decision you made. At the end of the day, it all boils down to numbers. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE !
Jan Olsson
I'm said to hear about your loss. It seems like you had many problems with that car, just about ALL the things that can go bad on a Cadillac. I'm on my 3:rd Cadillac and hopefully I'll get a RWD STS in a couple of years. Think of it this way, you'll propably never ever encounter half-case problems or headgasket problem again. Especially not on the same car.
Cadillac Jim
I'm very sorry for your loss. I don't know what I would do if something happened to my Cadillac. The head gasket, lots of oil seepage, and 116,500 miles with then-common opinion that the case half O-ring needed replacing at about 120,000 miles, and a flickering oil pressure light at idle when hot are the factors that made me decide on a remanufactured engine back in July 2006. After browsing posts here, I decided on Jasper as the gold standard of remanufactured engines, and after talking to Jasper people on the phone several times I ordered one. But, that's a lot of money. As my only car and daily driver, with nothing else wrong with it and plans to drive it for many years, it made economic sense to me at the time. Four years later, with the bottom out of the used-car market, I would be a lot more likely to change cars, as you did. I would keep a lookout for V8 Cadillacs. Because used-car prices are low, and because the perception is that V8 cars are all gas-guzzers, there are a lot of perfectly good cars out there for not too much money. Dealers don't like to carry older cars, they don't like to carry cars that don't move quickly, and times are tough so that they do what they have to do to maximize the cash flow from every square foot of the lot, so you really need to look elsewhere. But, perfectly good V8 Cadillacs for far too little money are out there. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. BodybyFisher
Thanks everyone. What makes this upsetting was that I WANTED to timesert a NORTHSTAR. I would be like a kid in the toy shop doing this over the winter months. This was not an easy decision, but I think what make me get rid of it was that, I did not want to do so much work, tax my body so badly for a car that I ultimately did not want to keep. I want a car that sticks to the ground, z rated STS, magnetic ride control, etc. If I were to expend the energy timeserting, sealing and rebuilding a Northstar, it should be something I want to keep, it should be an STS It was not an easy decision at all however, its like breaking up I do have an everyday memory however, I have a 2 by 2 foot oil spot in my driveway from the case-half seal leak that did not go way after a 3000 psi powerwashing job, Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
I cant help but wonder what has been compromised to achieve that look. Handling High speed stability Ability to take bumps and undultions I had a bright yellow 74 Eldorado Conv, it was the shade of a CAB. With the top down, driving locally or on the New Jersey Turnpike, that car attracted a lot of attention way too much for my liking. It was huge, it was a convertible and it was bright yellow. I hated it.
