Jan Olsson
No need to be worried just yet. When I fixed some burned exhaust valves on my 1993 STS I used Time-Serts because a lot of the thread material came out with the bolts. No bolts were loose I might add. Some believe that the threads give up and causes the gaskets to blow. I believe the other way round. The gasket gives up and with enough time maybe a thread or two gives up because of excessive movement and forces in the area of the failed gasket. That phenomenom would show itself with bolts so loose that you hardly have to turn them loose which is hard to separate from the fact that they all require litte effort to loose even when they are clamping as they are supposed to do. Long story short, I don't believe that there are many cases where the bolts actually has loosened themselves. I believe the most damage done to the threads is when you loosen them. In your case the original threads may be fine enough to be used as is. How was the old bolts looking? Nice and clean or gunked with aluminium debris? Kris Poland
It looks good, I can even say very nice. On the threads was only rest of sealant. I change them becouse mechanik i asked too said that bolts should be new. Reason is that bolts become a bit longer during the time work engine. I will report when I see something wrong. Cadillac Jim
Jan - Kris has not pulled the heads. He pulled the idler wheel mount for the cam chain idler on the front of the engine. Apparently previous work had not tightened these bolts properly and they had worked loose, to the point that the cam chain idler jammed and locked up the cam chain, which ripped the idler mount off the front of the block. Kris: The Timesert inserts are for the bottoms of the head bolt holes. The factory uses threads directly in the aluminum, with threadlock and sealant that makes the head bolts hard to break loose to remove the heads. Usually the aluminum threads are not re-usable. GM recommends Timsert steel inserts for the head bolt holes. Once these steel inserts are in place, you can re-use them if the heads need to be removed. The stock head bolts work with these inserts. You still should use new head bolts when you put the heads back on the block. Kris Poland
I have seen timeserts as way to fix damaged Bolt holes, but fixing engine was my first time that why I can believe everyone in everything. It take a while, but at least engine work (hope that for long years ) After disassembly heads it turned out that only 4 exhaust valves and 2 intake was bent. So, I did like I said before, drill new hols in place of old one, make new thread M8. // I think, if I was first, that means, that orginal M6 is strongly enough. That why M8.// Head was totally repaired, valves, gaskets, lifters, etc... Mount new timming set and idler sprocket. And engine WORKS!!! Already about 5 hours. IM PROUD FROM MY, becouse I did It by my self. @Cadillac Jim, Kris said this on the prior page. He undoubtedly had the heads off. Kris Poland
Hi everyone! After 6k mil hard knocking noise forced me to disasemby timing case and camshaft case. It turned out that timing chain tensioner not hold the chain. I buy new timing set before and that new was broken. So that is worning for everyone do not trust new parts. I report that there is no licking oil under the head. Engine working fine, except one worning "camshaft sensor bank 1" code p340 and 341. That code become 3kmil ago. I buy new sensor but nothing change. Is it possible that engine computer is bad?
barczy01
Are the tensioners ac delco or from a cheapo kit from ebay. I have had a motor delevered to me with bent valves in the back from a prior rebuild and they used the cheapo timing chain kit from ebay and the tensioner failed causing the valves to bend. Get time Timing components from Rockauto.

BodybyFisher
I know this is a long time after the last post buy I wouldn't hesitate to use Cloyes. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the original equipment manufacturer Are you telling me a Cloyes tensioner failed? @Kris Poland Quote Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

They only have so many in Stock .I read on the forum someone posted .That they could be bought online for a complete set for less than one hundred dollars . Any ideas on that
Bruce Nunnally
a complete set would be 32 valves, so I would expect $165-320. Quote Bruce 2016 Cadillac ATS-V gray/black Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube
