WarrenJ
You know that's a great idea! I can see it now: "Watch Mike bust his knuckles and curse!" Beer here! clarkz71
"Weak at heart." It is a big job. And I was just doing the side cover. To get to the ISS....the axle has to come out...and the next big chunk of trans has to come out. If I had to do a ISS. I might consider sending the work out to a trans shop. You did 95% of the work, it's not a big deal to pull the axle, cover and valve body. No way I would get that far & not change the ISS. Mike, you should be able to get the HVAC cover off, wouldn't be a big deal to drop the powertrain another few inches at that point. I already have my new cover, just need to order the ISS and related parts. I've been putting it off as my trans still shifts great. (Still have TCC & OD too)
BodybyFisher
I will probably change the TCC while I am there, I have to pass it... How much did your HVAC cover cost? I think at 12 inches, I'd have plenty of room.. Thanks and good luck with the job, i am still surprised when you see the Service Transmission message that you don't lose OD, the car still drives fine, the RPMs are higher as it does not go into OD Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
clarkz71
The HVAC cover was $90 at my local dealer with a slight discount. It's cheaper at GM parts direct but with them it's a special order part which means 3 weeks of waiting. When I order with my dealer it's next day and no shipping charge. I don't have the service transmission message, maybe because I'm OBD I. Just the P056 code and the SES light. Don't forget the Dexron VI fluid. KHE
I ordered a replacement cover from Brasingtons when I had my engine out - I think it was $65. The price was comparable to gmpartsdirect but I had the part in 4 days vs 2 weeks.... Logan
More TCC 1860 / 741 info..... TCC sensor tear down. Yes, replace the TCC soleonid anytime you have the side cover off. I would now also consider replacing the pressure soleonid while there. After what I have found.. As for the ISS sensor. 0 problems so far. I was on a very tight weather, weekend, xmas plan timeline. I would consider going ahead and doing the ISS next time the side cover is off. Anyway, TCC sensor tear down. This TCC solenoid developed an internal short. I tore down the sensor, as I do with most failed sensors. With extra attention on $1200 sensor failure jobs. I attached a couple of pics. This TCC sensor had burnt trans fluid on it. In the exposed plastics area. Hard, easy chipped away. See picture arrow. Like carbon build up. Strange.. Exposed TCC sensor plastic had expanded. Under heat? Under internal failure? Dont know for sure. Internal coil looked horrible. The TCC sensor plastics. Seems to be right at transmission fluid level area. Real close. So maybe run the fuild level on the high side? Little low and the sensor gets hot? This TCC sensor did work fine for 130K. But for $34...replace every time the side cover is off. Dont know what the pressure solenoid costs.. BodybyFisher
Thanks great Logan, thanks for that info, I will definately replace mine while I am in there. I am also hoping that pulling the side pan and bottom pans that I solve the leaks I have. The bottom pan leaks pretty badly but I can only imagine that an aftermarket gasket was used without the metal washers on it.. BodybyFisher
Hey Lou, here is my thread on the P0717 code, and dropping the carriage, see MY post #15, I give the size and where I ordered the bolts. MCS on line http://www1.mscdirect.com/cgi/nnsrhm Be advised that SOME years use different bolts, I discovered this from another member to whom I sent my bolts to, so checl out what size bolts your carriage uses BEFORE you order http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=13481 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Logan
"OK, I was ready to drop my carriage, pulled one of the carriage bolts and they are M12 1.75. The bolts Logan sent are M14, not sure what year those were from. No one has metric threaded rods only SAE. I had to order two M12 1.75 threaded rods, they are one meter in length. Got them at MCS on line, their customer service was open Saturday. So this job has been postponed till next weekend, but I am ready to go now. Car is now sitting on truck stands." I still have some of the M14 rods sitting in the corner. I could not find any Metric rods in the Nashville area. I actually found mine on eBay. samert
On my 96 Eldorado I only have the PO741 code (not the PO1860 also). Does this mean that replacing the TCC will not correct my problem?
RicanCaddy
My father's 01 Eldorado ESC yelled the PO1860 and possible PO0741. He said there where two codes but I guess he did not wait for the PO741, he said the car sounded like it had misfired but later realized it was bucking when it was ready to hit OD. Besides the three pictures are there any manuals you all recommend we reference to, it seems pretty simple remove hoses that will inhibit it from dropping or damaging, remove the plate, replace solenoid, purge replace trans fluid and coolant fluid. There were some other suggestions regarding some brackets to go ahead and replace and the ISS (I have no idea what that is) while the engine was dropped and I am in the process of copy and pasting all the info here to have a sequential order to follow. If you guys have any further suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
