JimD
I directly measured my new ISS sensor tonight. It measured 1410 ohms at about 70 degrees... The range is 1,260 Ohms to 1,872 Ohms, so I am looking good. Have not checked the wiring yet, will post the results It's good to know your old meter was the problem and not the new sensor. Yes, thanks Jim for keeping an eye on me. That meter is over 20 years old, its an analog meter. I will take another look at that meter to see if I was reading it wrong. As you can see, the two ISS modules tested very differently. I am pretty confident that my old sensor was toast now. I took Logan's advice and I am replacing the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Valve and the Pressure Control Solenoid Valve. I lent my digital meter to Rollingthunder and never got it back. BodybyFisher
I really dont need the bolts back...you can forward them to FS98SIM... The GM online service manual really only goes back to 1998. This is what it shows this under PO716 and PO717.. The Automatic Transmission Input (Shaft) Speed Sensor (A/T ISS) is a permanent magnet with a coil of wire wound around it. The A/T ISS mounts in the transmission case facing the drive sprocket of the input shaft. An air gap of 1.14-2.77 mm (0.045-0.109 in) between the sensor and drive sprocket must be maintained in order to transmit an accurate AC voltage. Sensor voltage varies from 0.5 volts AC at 100 RPM to more than 100 volts at 8000 RPM. This diagnostic monitors the A/T ISS circuit. The circuit may be functional but not in the normal operating range. This diagnostic indicates stuck, erratic, or intermittent values, indicating poor performance of the system. The A/T ISS has a resistance value of 1300-1950 ohms. Thanks Logan, I just saw this tonight. I will contact FS98SIM. When you get a chance, PM me your address. BodybyFisher
Today, I gapped the ISS sensor at .045, cleaned the scavenger pump/Upper Control Valve Body spacer place and replaced the gaskets. The old gaskets were brittle and as I mentioned one appeared to have blown. It was hard to clean the spacer plate, the gasket while loose in large areas, small areas were stuck on the plate badly and I had to scrape it without scratching the plate. I replaced the TCC Pressure Solenoid and the Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS). One of my thrust bearings was rough, I wish I would have ordered and replaced it, it seems to have overheated. I believe it overheated because, my fluid leaked so badly, the fluid was always low, and the bearing probably needs the fluid. darn... I installed the side cover, scavenger pump and torqued all the bolts. Hope to get a lot done tomorrow. BodybyFisher
Well today was a rough day. The engine carriage is back up and torqued to spec. In the middle of raising the carriage I installed the heater pipes, very tough, but they look good. Its falling into place. On Friday, I took my lower control arms to a local machine shop to have them press in new bushings. One side they did adequately, the other side looked terrible. I went out to my car to get my glasses and it was NOT centered, the bushing was deformed, the bead was sheared and it was beat up with a hammer. Needless to say, I was PO'd. I stayed calm and said, I could have done this job in my garage, I expected MUCH better from a machine shop that proports that it can do that job! They admitted they did a bad job and offered to install a new bushing for NC... big of them... Its really difficult to find competent mechanics and services. I am beat from this job its been a long weekend... BodybyFisher
Sorry I didn't post these photos sooner, they are from last weekend, I couldn't find my camera USB cable Here is the spacer plate that sits between the pump / upper control valve assembly and the side case cover. This is before cleaning Notice the two check balls circled in red this is the side case cover (notice the RED tranny fluid, it has about 50K miles on it) This gasket sits between the spacer plate and the case cover This is the cleaned up spacer plate This is the upper control valve assembly gasket and spacer plate, the pump gasket goes to the right, I was very careful about keeping dirt out of the unit. Sorry about the jump here, I got really tired and neglected taking pictures, here is the side pan in place, I painted it Here is the engine carriage back up in place, note the new tranny mount Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

BodybyFisher
Muffler system connected New O2 Sensors in (Post CAT and Front Bank) Here is my control arm, this is what excites me, new AC Delco control arm bushings, new thermoplastic polypropylene strut rod bushings from MOOG and new ball joint boots from Energy Suspensions Putting this control arm in was VERY hard, the new strut rod bushing is thick and hard, I had to use the old front strut rod bushing with two thick washers to get the nut on to PULL the new inner strut rod bushing into place (by compressing it) so that the control arm bushing was able to go into its slot, very tight. I CAN NOT wait to see how tight my front end is and how it changes the handling and control... I put these on my 91 Seville and it was like a slot car.. I now need to replace my rear knuckles...and I am thinking H rated tires Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
KHE
Nice work! When do you think you'll fire it up? I wouldn't bother with H rated tires - your PCM limits the speed to 110-112 anyway. Besides those cars look like hell with blackwalls... Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
BodybyFisher
Thanks Kevin. I should be done tomorrow, lots of work left but I am moving fast now, very straight forward assembly. Reinstalling the crossover was not too bad, the new gaskets have bolt holes that are tight around the bolt and the bolt holds them in place nicely. The relay center was a little tricky to route all the harnesses correctly. I am glad I took lots of digital photos at each stage of disassembly, it has helped the assembly. The throttle body and spacer are back in place with new seals and gaskets. I still need to drop the lower pan to replace the screens and gasket, it leaks badly, that will go fast however. I might do that first to let it drip for a couple of hours. The reason I am thinking about H rated tires is because the sidewall is tighter, it stiffens up the car on turns.. I am not interested in the increased speed capability. They are better in rain also. You are right however, the trade off and its a big one, is the black walls, my car needs whitewalls. I bought a new oil drain bolt, its magnetized, the old one wasn't magnetized, I bought it at the dealer, it a much better drain bolt, with a dedicated seal. In this photo you can see the crossover installed, the new heater pipes, the new green hoses I am rockin the DELO 400 15w40 diesel oil, ahhh, there is Caddyinfo on my laptop...I listened to music all day, loved it Hows that for shiney Its definately looking better Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
BodybyFisher
Today was a productive day. The wiring harness is hell to reinstall. The wiring harness connects the oil level sensor, alternator, ac compressor, oil pressure switch, crank sensors, ac sensor, and front O2 sensor on one leg and the cooling fans, cooling fan relays, ABS, tranny connector on the other leg. Initially I had difficulty installing the alternator that I had rebuilt, but I just loosened the large bracket and it was very easy. I still need to install the radiator, cooling fans, water pump cover, RF axle and control arm, and hoses but its looking good. This has been a very hard job physically for me, my knee is killing me. Here is how the engine looks now almost re-assembled: Well now I know why my pan was leaking so badly. An aftermarket gasket was used and while I snugged up the bolts about a year ago, the bolts were actually loose.. The gasket was fluid soaked an it fell right off both contact surfaces. When I dropped the pan down, the filter was in the pan along with the filter seal, so there was a poor if no seal. The other filter screen came out very very easily. These appear to be aftermarket filter screens, but JUNK. I know the shop that changed the fluid and filter at 50,000 miles, I will never recommend them again. The AC Delco filter/screens and pan gasket were a much better quality and the seal was much better. The new pan gasket has standoffs at each hole to stop you from crushing the gasket/seal. Look at that red fluid after 50K miles , very clean and there is not a lot of debris in the pan either... Hmm, maybe I am not doing enough WOT's? This junk in the bottom of the pan looks like red RTV, with the poor filter seal I am lucky this wasnt sucked into the system.. Here are the infamous shift solenoids: I want to thank Kevin (KHE) for this idea, while it seems an obvious thing to do, I don't think I would have thought about writing the tightening sequence on the pan to make it easy. This is one of those things that you learn from an experienced mechanic, thanks Kevin This is a crappy photo, but the side pan drain plug is circled in red. We have been asked at times where the internal side pan plug is...right next to the intake for the screen/filter that has a bend in it (one filter is straight and one has a bend in it (see second photo below for a full view of the bottom and both filters/screens, see red circle for approximate location of drain) Getting up at 6 AM to finish this job... Thanks for all the photos and time and thought you have put into the board during all this work you're doing. You're our knight in shining armor!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, it's fun to be honest. Hard as hell, but fun. There is very little room, so patience is very important. The heater pipes have brakets that have a 7 mm screw that is near impossible to get at, let alone reinstall. These engines are a challenge to work on, but the design is drop dead amazing, I love it.
