What in the world is with some of you guys?

I thought Caddy owners acted better than this.

I am not sure if I should be offended or not. After all I do own an original factory Corvette that's parked right next to my home customized 70 Implala rag top.

Yeah, and I ride a 1999 Suzuki Bandit 1200SX with a 2.7 second 0-60 time and 11.19 second quarter-mile times. Of course, those times were cut with several runs by a Cycle Magazine pro rider who is a third my age and 50 pounds lighter, on an expendable factory-prepared bike, but my standard is a hell of a Saturday afternoon fall-leaf-viewing touring bike. When gas hit $3 a gallon, I put an E-Zpass on it becaue it gets 35 mpg on the road.

My wife's car is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT with a 3.4 liter HO V6 and Level 3 suspension, and I keep it in tip-top shape. That's not as easy as it sounds because it has only 44,000 miles on it and she rarely drives it. But I recently drove it on a road trip when the Caddy was in the shop and it is one fine ride.

You can look at my avatar and my signature and see what I really like to drive, though. Welcome to the forum, If_you_can. I have a 1997 FSM and a long background in general automtive technologies and problem solving. And, I don't care what you are trying to do, I just want to help out if I can, so long as it is legal.

Offended by the comment that people either buy a box with a semi-custom part and think they are a customizer or they have a stock Corvette and think Corvettes shouldn't be coustomized.

Well I have a stock Vette and a custom car I built with the only parts from a box being weather strips and bushings.

Of course I did have a lot of paint cans. So I'm not sure just where I fit in if at all.

Yes in my opinion some cars shouldn't be screwed with. Some being fine classic Cadillac's.

But I don't hold it agains't someone if they want to make a custom car nor do I say things like go over to the whatever site because you do not think like me and this type of car owner is a so and so since they don't chop the $100.000 classic they own apart.

I have a very good idea of how this started as most of us that have followed it do; I think anyway. I was just taken by surprize a little by how some folks acted.

This thread didn't seem like the type of thing a person would see from guy's that have and drive one of the best cars ever made.

I guess I thought a Cadillac owner had a bit more reserve than to get cought in a school yard name calling fight that was attacking people that weren't even involved. I felt insulted by some of the comments towards other car owners.

From what I have seen this is a great place with great people.

But in my opinion some of you guy's have a real short fuse at times. I thought this was a site for BS-ing about Caddy's not for cat fights. ;)

By the way, thanks for the welcome. It's still nice to be here. :D

Please, there is a saying, A day late and a dollar short. You are late to the game, all of the issues that you are citing are water under the bridge and mentioning it again is digging up old news. You are a new member look around and get a feel for the board before you begin criticizing something that is over. I spent most of my time in this thread trying to stabilize this thread. It is stabilized and no more negative comments are NEEDED.

The Corvette comment was used by ME..... I don't know about you, but MOST Corvette owners I know are VERY careful to keep their cars stock, they will do sanctioned upgrades (Phase 1, 2 and 3, etc) but for the most part they are conscious about keeping there cars stock. Customizing a Corvette diminishes the value to true blue aficionados. I was using THAT mentality to explain that we on this board are similar to that, do a search if you DON'T believe me you wont find any customizing having been done on this board.

This board is somewhat conservative, straight laced in its membership, we are not really into pimping or tricking out our cars.... THAT IS THE TONE OF THE BOARD... We have been described as OLD TIMERS, and that might be true. We should NOT be criticized because we initially take exception to something that we have not seen before or are not used to or don't care for. WE WILL adapt and get used to it, but for you to come here on your 8th post and call us on our conservative nature is unnecessary. Please look around and get the lay of the land and see how we operate and help people all over the world before dumping on us, you might be surprised.

Welcome aboard.

Hey I dont have a problem with the customizing idea I really don't. I have more of a problem with ridgidity in both directions. Personally I could care less if a member ties ropes on the four corners fills it with dirt plants flowers in it and hangs it from a tree. But I don't have to like it. It's personal preference. I have insulted Deville owners when I say, I think my car rides like a boat but just the same, I love my car for its attributes. Its hard to make a statement especially an absolute statement without offending someone. On the same token, for a customizer to come here and assume that we (a 'relatively' conservative cadillac forum) should not be somewhat shocked by lowering a 66 cadillac to the ground is somewhat overbearing, as that type of customization is not really mainstream or common, set aside that the car becomes virtually undrivable due to a lot of limitations. So to me, the customizer should come to expect somewhat shocked reactions. It goes both ways.

That said, Bob D lowered his Seville. To me, slight lowering via Eibach springs tightens the suspension and contributes to better handling, have a look at Bob D's Seville on his profile:

granted i was a bit rough saying this site is anti - custom - but still hear me out - i am into custom vehicles. NOW if i ever get the funds to bag my deville it will be - all customized cars endup parked for winter . Do you see any show cars ( 55' chevy's , mint caddy's driving in salt and icy roads?) i don't . i live where it takes for ever for state to plow the roads in the winter - i would never put a customized vehicle to that torcher . i had a bagged mazda b2200 b4 i had this i sold my bag truck cause i needed cash - if i didn't need money in a bad way i'd still have it .. we're all into some thing called Custom- BUT custom does not come in a box! IT Requires you to fabricate. us customizers have other vehicles that we drive - 90% of my friends have bagged trucks and cars and they tare down thier vehicles once show season ends - and do MORE mods up and including NEW PAINT. i know a guy that took a 2000 nissan Frontier pickup and bagged/body dropped / and put a 383 stroker (thats right ) into a nissan . He had 50k into that truck . atleast im spending my money on something and it keeps me out of trouble.

SO = tell me how does it become un drivable ? Amuse me -

I tend to think 1LowDeville that you will mellow as you become more aquatinted with the members of Caddyinfo. There are good people on this site that go out of their way to help others. Sometimes members may be a bit blunt but it doesn’t mean it’s a personal attack. But whatever you do, don’t trash GM or Cadillac—Trust me! There’s one member who goes by the name of ‘scotty’ who will make a rare appearance and read you the riot act.

Welcome!

where did i say i would bash the gm name or cadillac ? don't take this the wrong way:

look- i've owned chevy , ford , dodge , mazda, nissan , suzuki,

want me to go down the line what i've owned? i can .

in no particular order :

91 ford aerostar van

87 ford escort

71 CHEVY nova

97 CHEVY caviler

92/93 F150 Super cab

83 F150 REG cab

84 F250 REG CAB

87 mazda b2200

89 mazda b2200

89 mazda b2200

87 mazda b2000 extended cab

84 dodge ram

80 nissan datsun extended cab

88 suzuki samurai ( converti )

91 Ford taurus

80 Caddy deville

AS u can see i don't stay true to any 1 brand - i buy what i can afford- I PERSONALLY like the caddy - it rides nice -but if i had a true choice i would have bought another pickup - As 4 dr cars or even 2 dr cars tend to get me into the "taxi" type profile . Which i hate - I've owned pickups for the last 6-7 years . That has kept me out of trouble . AND I can do things without depending on ppl who CLAIM to say they'll help me do something if i need something . i take care of things on my own . When i get stabble money wise i will buy another truck - and i'll still keep the caddy just have to find a place to park it cause of these stupid wack rules where i live- we are only allowed 2 vehicles. I feel if you can afford to buy 2 vehicles and maintain insurance on said vehicles i think you should have them .

The "don't bash Cadillac" was an inside joke, poking fun at an old-timer here. Of course you don't need to be reminded not to bash Cadillacs on Caddyinfo.com forums.

I'm a little different from most of the other old-timers:

  • My current Cadillac is my first one.
  • I grew up in the car business but was never a professional mechanic.
  • I don't care what somebody wants to do, so lonig as it is legal and moral.
I have one thing in common with most of them: My Cadillac is my daily ride and I'm very careful about keeping it in tip-top shape, and I'm very conservative about mods to it. My backup ride is my wife's car, but she needs it when I'm at work so her car isn't my second car. My motorcyle is great for rides in the country but my personal safety philosophy is that it should be used as a recreational vehicle, not as a freeway commuter. In other words, I need my car every morning year-round, and I'm very protective of its reliability.

Put two kids, a wife and their baggage in it and drive 500 miles starting out on Long Island and the Belt Parkway. Then, take it and drive into Queens and Brooklyn on New York City pot hole streets. How does it take curb cuts, speed bumps and pot holes? How is it in deep snow? Can you do that with it when its lowered?

I am happy you are a customizer, we will help you any way we can.

well i don't have any kids nor do i a wife - ( what a way to suck the custom funds .:( speed bumps. hm you can still go over speed bumps if you have a adjustable suspension . if its just static dropped i would be care full - as you would with a stock car - u don't try going over speed bumps at 15 -20 mph unless you like to see-saw :) yes ny has to many pot holes and to many burnt cars on the sides of 95 goin thru the city . philly ,pa is the same way - LOL i just do whats best - AVOID EM - as in the cities! lol . im in the country - so we don't have to much in the ways of pot holes here - and im sure when you drive your STOCK car you try to avoid pot holes as they tend to knock your alignment out correct??? thats what i do as well - i've owned several lowered vehicles. MY last truck the bagged one before i bagged it , it was static dropped and i drove that thru the winter as well - Most customizers do have what we call as "beaters" A cheap couple hundered $ car that is good on gas in the winter to use .

I have a 96 Deville, its very difficult to miss pot holes sometimes. When I needed front struts and springs things like curb cuts and speed bumps were hard to navigate even at low speed. What I am saying is that in many ways dropping a car as low as that 66 you showed us takes away some of the cars driveability as you acknowledged. If you can live with thats fine, I couldn't. As I have said, its preference.
