The very first thing that I would do would be to change the fuel filter.

The next thing would be to check the fuel pressure at the engine. It is possible that the fuel pump is failing.

I agree with Britt, check fuel pressure also

Definately pull codes and post them here. note you have OBD1.

Sounds to me like a bad IAC, or a large vacumn leak.

Stuck open EGR valve? EGR valves are pain to remove on 4.9 engines, but you can depress the diaphragm with fingers to make sure it moves freely. Look arounf the throttle body and you will see it. It looks like one in the picture. post-312-13279971592105_thumb.jpg

I've seen this with a bad fuel pump relay. The engine starts on the priming fuel pressure charge, then dies when it runs out. I would check the relevant fuses and relays first.

Thanks to all. I have changed the fuel filter and no change. I will try to pull codes tomorrow and get them posted. Again thanks!

What about the fuel PRESSURE?

All the above plus

"check for loose or improperly connected body ground (front left hand wheel well), engine grounds (attached to the engine near the starter), or distributor ground.

Check distributor pick up coil.

All these items may elicit no PCM or BCM trouble codes.

Also do the stalls occur with a full gas tank or at low fuel levels?(check fuel pump strainer and all else already mentioned)

This thread fits into the "frustrating" category in terms of results, progress and back and forth communication. We are only as good as the communication and feedback

Not sure if you are still having the stalling problem but if you are, borrow or purchase a fuel pressure gage, sears sells them, connect it to the fuel rail, and turn the key on, not to start, just to the ON position, and read the fuel pressure, start the car while watching the gage and see what happens to the pressure. Most good fuel pressure gages have a purge line, that you direct into a container and you press a button to release fuel pressure and excess fuel into the containers before you detach them. Standing pressure can be quite high, and you can spray fuel, if the pressure is not safely eliminated.

Well sorry it took me so long to get back here but life has been happening. So I changed the fuel pump and woo hoo it runs however it would seem that while changing the the fuel filter I punctured a break line so the story continues but thanks for all the input it was very much appericiated!!!

OH good, thanks for getting back, glad the fuel pump solved the problem.

Consider yourself lucky that you disturbed a brake line, it was probably rusted and ready to go, better you cause it to happen rather than it happening at your first red light or panic stop

That's exactly what happened to my rusted Seville brake lines. I disturbed them during gas tank replacement and they failed shortly after (one after another) while I was on a business trip.

Yup, that was the worst repair I have done on my Seville (because of conditions not the complexity).

Okay got the breaks fixed replaced the line bled the brakes and POP blew another one. Now my neg cable is getting real hot. Hot enough to melt the coating. Any ideas on this one?

What is the charging rate?

Check all grounds between the engine and the frame

Do you think this hot wire is occuring on start up or while the engine is running?

Key on reads 12 volts upon startup 0 volts. Also it will start and drive. Drive about 20 miles and you will have a 10 minute wait before you can restart.

Something must be wrong with your starter. Sounds like a no start when hot.

The solenoid may be sticking, which would account for the heavy battery drain that heats up your battery ground cable. Have you run the OBD codes?
