In the automobile mags it hasn't recieved much praise, I know I really like the heated seat and lumbar and can usually adapt that myself pretty good :) And with the memory package it will remember lumbar and seat position.

The Green's Machines

1998 Deville - high mileage, keeps on going, custom cat-back exhaust

2003 Seville - stock low mileage goodness!

2004 Grand Prix GTP CompG - Smaller supercharger pulley, Ported Exhaust Manifolds, Dyno tune, etc

1998 Firebird Formula - 408 LQ9 Stroker motor swap and all sorts of go fast stuff

You either get (massaging) lumbar or adaptive with the memory option. Mine has lumbar. Never cared much for lumbar. I always keep if completely deflated. Only used massaging once on the trip home from Texas. Given the choice, even though I have never had or used adaptive, that would be my choice.

Body by Fisher,

I have never had adaptive seating but I really like the heated, massaging lumbar seats in my DTS.

I sometimes hurt in my lower back and hips and the heated massage feels pretty darn good. To me at least. But things like that are very much an individual preference. Just throwing my 2 cents worth.

On what year/model vehicles is it available? Have you narrowed your search?

I've really enjoyed the adjustable lumbar support in the last two cars. It's pretty much set-and-forget; I rarely adjust it. That said, I wouldn't be without it.

The "messaging" thing sounds interesting, maybe even dangerous. :)

The trade off might be a difficult decision.

Warren

I am not sure, but I recently ran across this article on the 2000 Cadillac, if you read down there is a section on Adaptive Seating, that is why I know it was available for 2000:

I think mine has it, but I don't even notice it. Only the devilles/dts had the massaging lumbar. I actually wish I had that.

Great article Mike.

I long ago came to the understanding that 4.5 hours was my driving limit. I'd guess I don't have much use for the adaptive stuff. I certainly wouldn't give up anything for it.

Only one person's thought.

I think you would know if you had the adaptive seat option.

My manual shows a separate button with an "auto" setting for the air bladders.

I don't have this option, but the power lumbar and heated seats suit me fine.

I,too, would love the luxury of a massaging lumbar feature on long trips.

I wonder how long before they offer buttons for shiatsu kneading, Swedish tapping,

wave, pulse, and intensity settings :)

At 6'5" 230, I think this feature would be beneficial for me.. I do take long trips to Virginia Beach, etc.., heck it can take 4 hours to get off Long Island,

I have not found a chair that I find comfortable so I am open to all ideas,

Haven't experienced the adaptive seating, but the air conditioned seats are spectacular in those warm muggy locales. If I move back east (and I hope I do) cool seats will be a priority!

Cooled seats...now that is something I'd LOVE to have. Oh and a heated steering wheel for winter, saw that on a DTS this past summer.

Both of those features are nice.

In hot weather, if you use the remote start, it turns on the A/C and the cooled seats for you. :) I love the A/C seats. They are really nice when it is over 100 degrees and the car has been sitting in the sun.

In cold weather, using remote start it turns on the heater, heated seats, heated steering wheel and since it has the Rain Sense windshield, if there is frost or ice buildup it will turn on the front and rear defrosters as needed and it heats the washer fluid to 140 degrees if you need that to help clear ice. Oh, it also displays on the DIC "Ice Possible Drive With Care." :)

That's not fair! :) All mine says is "ice possible." What kind of remote start do you have?

The standard remote that came with it. I wouldn't swear to it, but I would think the message has to do with the DIC, temp sensors and the Rain Sense windshield and not the type remote.

The Rain Sense windshield can startle you at times. I had stopped at a station one day on a trip to refuel and clean the bugs off the windshield. It was hot and I had left it running with the AC on. As I was fixing to scrub the windshield with the little squigy thingy... I few drops of water fell on the windshield just as I put the squigy on it. The wipers knocked it out of my hand and startled the #$% out of me. It was totally unexpected when the wipers turned themselves on. Had to turn them off to finish cleaning the windshield but I REMEMBER to do that since then. :):):) I may learn SLOW ... but I learn GOOD. :)

Is it true that you can't turn off toyota's rainsense? I heard that from someone once...

If that is true, then what happens at an automatic car wash?

It doesn't make sense.

Well someone told me that they hate their rainsense wipers on their toyota because when they are going down the road getting bugs on the window, the wipers go on. Maybe they just couldn't figure out how to shut them off...

Are yours like mine where you put it to the first delay and if you want them more sensitive you just turn up the delay? If so, do you just leave yours on delay/rainsense all the time?

Yes I leave them on all time and change the delay as needed for sensitivity. Usually on the first or second click of the delay. If they are off, the DIC reminds you everytime you start it that they are off.

I have only had them come on one time because of bugs. I ran thru a BIG swarm of honey bees just outside of San Antonio, and they TOTALLY COVERED the windshield and the entire front of the car. Used the washers quite a bit just to get it where I could see. Got to the next little town and had the car washed. Yellow and black honey bees don't look real good on the White Lightning pearl paint. :):):)

I saw a couple of news reports that entire hives of honey bees had disappeared, [example: http://www.physorg.com/news91990483.html ]but I had no idea that it was Texas Jim and his killer DTS top speed runs!@! We need warning: honey bee crossing zones!?
