I thinks its dead......fake DTS

Logan

Recommended Posts

Wow........I think it got killed.......the car park and was caught in major hail storm this afternoon at the Saturn plant in TN.

Roof, hood, trunk terrible damage. The worst is the passeger side of the car. Not a square inch that does not have hail damage. Hail even cracked the taillight.....

Insurance adjuster on phone was suprised when I mentioned I think its totalled. Work in the car industry you know what can and cannot be fixed...

It would need new hood, trunk, roof, pasenger front fender, 2 passenger doors. maybe new 1/4 panel. Not worth it on a 5 year old car...

That really sucks. We had golfball sized hail here today in Bloomington, Indiana. I went to Walmart from the shop today maanged to avoid the hail when I was there. Its been nasty around here.

Logan-

Nothing sucks more than having a car you put that much work into meet it's maker. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Hail scares me. I've seen what it can do. When there is a tornado warning I'm like "cool". When I hear that there's hail headed my way I'm like "noooo". But, it's that time of year.

darn sorry, man

Sorry this happened to the car. I know you are disappointed.

It is an opportunity for a different Cadillac though, and after driving, shopping

for the car is my favorite part.

Logan,

I'm sorry to hear about your recent misfortune. I've always admired how you seem to view your Deville as a project toy. Always pushing the envelope on new and at times unusual fronts. I'm anxious to see what the next project will look like. So basically the Deville looks like a maroon golf ball on wheels? You know....... it just might fly (I mean drive) straighter, longer, and take less fuel. Of course it might hook or dog leg badly too. Glad to hear it's covered.

Hmmm.....really hard to get the pictures to show the damage....the pictures really do not show the actual damage.

2/3 of the car is dented. The door pillar picture shows the damage the best. It gives you an idea...roof, hood, decklid, all of passenger side...

How can they fix all of this......?

That is incredible that hail can do that kind of damage.

Imagine trying to fix those dents with this gadget?

The unfortunate thing is that mechanically the car is 100%. I am curious what the insurance company will do on this..

I can not imagine that this can be fixed unless they think that fiberglass/bondo is adaquate. I would imagine that replacing the individual components is an option but the roof, pillars and rear quarter panel would need to be straightened or bondo'd. not to mention the windshield. Where were you when this happened. I think I saw it on the news, the hail was the size of baseballs. I would imagine that if you got hit with one of these it could kill you. Was anyone injured?

Mike,

I hear that the paintless dent repair is quit amazing. As long as there are no creases, they can pull those dimples right out without needing paint and it's supposed to be undetectable.

Ranger, I posted a link to that dent puller above, do you mean that type of method? Mike

Yeah, it is somthing like that but it is done professionaly. Most insurance companies use these guys for hail damage as well as dealerships. They come to your house or work and do it right there. I have never seen it done but I'd like to one of these days.

HEHe ! Yes my buddy in Ft Lauderdale had it done to his new CTS after hail that came with a hurricane so he said. And he to claimed it worked great. The car is worth to much to just totally junk, and with much time invested in it as you have.

Keep us posted on your progress, Logan.

I'm very curious as to the effort involved to fix hundreds of dents like yours.

I clipped the edge of my trunk last year, right on the 90 degree edge above the led brake light.

The dentless repair guy came to my house, and the secret is they are very methodical, working slowly.

He needs to get under the metal, then he pokes into the dent with a long rod, tightening the rod with a

vicelike screw, slowly exerting pressure on the underside of the crater. He stops every few minutes and

heats up the metal from the painted side, saying it helps to make the metal more pliable and also aids in

the finish not ending up in spider cracks. He constantly checked his progress by feeling the work, inspecting

it, then proceeding. Very tedious and hands-on work.

At the end of the job, he used a power buffer and sealer. It took probably 1 hour for the dent, and cost me

$80. My dent was very difficult, as a 90degree angle is much stronger than a flat surface. Today, you cannot see the dent ... but, mine was only one dent.

A few dents seem repairable using this method. Your car seems too be far to involved to go through this

process hundreds of times.

Good luck.

Could always replace the trunk lid and the hood and do the dent removal on the rest.. Sounds like it would have to go to a dent shop for sometime then though..

Logan,

I would guess that your car is an ideal candidate for PDR Paintless Dent Removal. You insurance company will probably suggest it and the cost might be $1,500-2,000 to them. There is a huge amount of web-info on paintless dent repair or removal. You may want to set up your own business along with LED-fixin.

Here is some interesting stuff on another tool-free method:

DENTS & HAIL DAMAGE

Dry Ice will condense metal and thereby shrink small dents on your car. Place the Dry Ice on the inside of the dent if possible. Use heavy gloves and press flat sheet against dent. If it is not possible to get on the inside concave part of the dent, then using heavy gloves hold the Dry Ice so a corner can fit into the bottom lowest part of the cratered dent. Hold the Dry Ice until the metal is frosted at least 2 inches beyond the dent. Let the metal warm up (in the sun is the best) and repeat the procedure. Sometimes the dent will pop out perfectly. More often it will not be possible to get a flat smooth finish, but the dent will be reduced noticeably. Creased metal will still show the crease line but the dent will be far less pronounced. I have not seen any paint damage, but I'm sure if the paint is not strongly adhered, it could peel away.

Good luck :)

Add power to leave problems behind. Most braking is just - poor planning.

I have been looking into PDR....I dont think that will work. The PDR guys do say there is a limit.

I cannot get a good picture of the car. But I did find a comp one.

Hood, roof, decklid, passenger side looks like this....
