Replacing Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Recommended Posts

remove the oil filter, loosen a turn or two the oil filter adapter housing bolts. The oil filter sensor takes a special socket, and a small 3/8 extension and a rachet will get the job done. Don't forget to tighten the housing after the connector is on.

You don't have to use that do you? A wrench would work too, wouldn't it?

You may risk rounding the corners of the sending unit if you don't use the socket.

Worse, you can hit the insulator and cause a hard-to-see ding that will cause the sending unit to leak when the engine is on. It may also change the calibration and give you a flickering oil light at hot idle. The leak will be a fine spray when the car is underway, and can mimic an oil leak on the oil pan. I have had techs tell me that I had a case half leak, and changing the sending unit gave me back a dry oil pan.

Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
