BodybyFisher
Well, we said we could discuss anything in the 19th hole OMG....I am dying of itchiness I think its from the sudden cold weather but my skin just above my knees on the inside of my legs and my sides are dry, red, raw, now has small bumps and its terribly itchy. This is the worst this has ever been for me Its about 25 to 32 degrees all of a sudden I am in a new house and it has hot air heat, I am using a new soap (don't know its name maybe Dove < no wise cracks ) I am not sure if the heater has a humidifier, but I think all hot air heating systems have them but I am not sure if its on, I have not gotten access to it, And I don't think I am drinking a lot of water, but I am drinking a lot of coffee (diruetic?) Oh, and I like hot showers Does anyone experience this in the winter? Do my hints above tell you anything? Cadillac Jim
A lot of bath soaps have antibacterial ingredients, "lotion" additives, scents, or other things that can irritate some people's skin. Try Ivory bath bars for a few days and see if it clears up. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Regis
Mike, There are, of course, many reasons for dry skin. Dove (Caress is good too) is actually a recommended soap by many dermatologists. It's mild and moisturizing to the skin with few side effects. Soaps like Ivory, dial, etc are some of the harshest. While Ivory is very effective at cleaning it, unfortunately, strips the skin of surface moisture. However it isn't necessarily a bad choice in hot humid climates where the body will readily perspire, restoring moisture to the skin's surface. Common causes for winter dry skin, you covered some, are furnace heat, not enough intake of water, and hot showers. Simple fixes. Try to drink more water, reduce the shower temp a tad, and get a warm water humidifier. Target sells a good one for $25 (we have 2 units). Also it would be helpful to use body lotion. One of the best OTC lotions is Neutrogena Body Moisturizer Norwegian Formula. Good friend is a researcher for the company. After all that your problem may simply be caused by chaffing from your pants. Are you wearing wool pants? I've gotten irritation in the same place on my legs from certain wool slacks. When I would sit down and purely by the dynamics of how pants actual press into that area of my legs, the wool fibers would prick me. Even though the pants are lined. I have some Italian wool pants and the wool is much more refined so I don't get the irritation but they are very costly. Some thing to consider. Interesting topic. Now lets go Shoot our eyes out in that game. lol "Burns" rubber " I've never considered myself to be all that conservative, but it seems the more liberal some people get the more conservative I become. Ranger
A humidifier will make a world of difference. It will also put an end to getting zapped by the static electricity.
Cadillac Jim
Most furnaces come with humidifiers. They need to be cleaned once a year. Most people let them go, and eventually the water trays and drums fill up with calcium and they stop. You might clean the tray -- all it takes is to cut off the water to it (a small petcock which may already be cut off), take the tray and drum to the kitchen sink, empty and clean them with your fingers, clean the non-removable apparatus with your fingers into a paper towell, and put back the drum and tray. Turn on the water petcock again and see if the tray fills up. If not, wiggle the float to break loose any calcium deposits that may be sticking it. BodybyFisher
Thanks Guys, I think other than the soap, I am doing everything else wrong, low humidity, lack of water, wool pants, no moisturizer and hot showers. I will make some changes and see what happens. I must check the humidifier on the heater to see whats going on... Regis, I actually have the Neutrogena Body Moisturizer Norwegian Formula, I use all Neutrogena products but only use the moisturizer on my face... Marika
http://www.drugstore.com/qxp16745_333181_s...re_rich_oil.htm Alpha Keri is what I've used for YEARS, every winter. I learned about it when I worked in a hospital. My skin dries out so bad it cracks sometimes and bleeds. After you shower with your soap, then take a wash cloth and pour some Alpha Keri onto the wash cloth and rub down your entire body with it. Then rinse and PAT yourself dry (don't rub) with your towel. BE VERY CAREFUL. Your bathtub WILL become a fall down hazard after using Alpha Keri. Alternatively, you can take a bath in it, just add to the bath water but again, your bathtub will become a fall down hazard after you use it so be careful. Your skin will stop itching almost immediately. If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans. I did something today that seems to have worked. I took a tepid bath and put in Ultra-E Pure Vitimin E skin oil 28000 iu, just a few drops, it stayed on the surface, and when I got in it seems to have covered my entire body and all itching is gone. It's OK as a stop gap method but you're better off getting a product specifically designed for your skin. After all, you wouldn't use axle grease in place of engine oil?
