Cadillac Jim
Whenever your car turns on a warning light, there is an OBD code that tells why. Run your OBD codes (on the A/C controls, press <Off> and <Pass Warmer> together for a few seconds until all the dash lights come on, then release, and watch the DIC), write down your codes, and post them here. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. rockfangd
I had the same code when I bought my 96 Deville. The pintle was gummed up. I removed and cleaned out the valve. Reinstalled it. Code never came back. What was happening was the egr valve was stuck closed as the engine warmed up and once it realizes it is not moving it throws a code. It took me 1 hour tops. I cleaned the egr valve and throttle body at the same time. Both have been good since. Welcome to Caddyinfo forum. Also the 96 to me was the best year they ever made. I swear I would buy another in a heartbeat. IT is the best caddy I have ever had GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
BodybyFisher
Yes that is correct Rock, I was confused by the CIRCUIT statement in the code, thinking it was related to the electronics. rockfangd
absolutely. Both are completely worth doing anyway if they have never been done. GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
winterset
For the EGR, you should have a stainless steel fuel rail (from a recall many years ago). remove the EGR, and use a torx? bit on a drill to spin the pintle valve at high speed while pushing the pintle in and out of the shaft - do this for a minute or 2. You can use a solvent (carb cleaner) to clean the dust residue from the area, but DO NOT allow any of the solvent to enter the EGR itself,as you will damage the coil windings. - just don't turn it upside down. GOOD LUCK
