aross2566
Need a little help. My 07 CTS with 64000 miles (I'm in sales) the front left strut went bad. The dealership said it would cost $900 to fix (both sides recommended). I sent a complaint to Cadillac about this problem. I told them I didn't feel I shoud have to fix a problem like this on this new of a car. Their response was since I've never taken the car to Cadillac for routine maintenance (I do all myself) they would offer a 10% discount. They further stated that the case was closed to not contact them again about this problem. My question is, who else would I contact to see if I can get some justice? Or, am I being unreasonable? By the way. this not my only Cadillac. Ancil

By the way. this not my only Cadillac. Ancil I see the ANGRY face on your thread so lets put your problem in perspective: The 2007 Cadillac CTS has a BASIC WARRANTY of 4 years/50,000 miles and a DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY of 5 years/100,000 miles. Your struts fall under the BASIC WARRANTY so you are 14,000 miles OVER 50,000 or 28% OVER the warranty. Let me repeat you're 28% over the ALLOWABLE MILEAGE. 1) So you, who is in sales, and who does LOTS of driving, did not purchase extended coverage on your vehicle KNOWING that you do LOTS of driving. This EXTENDED coverage is EVEN tax deductible given the way you use your vehicle. 2) NOW, you expect GM to FOOT the BILL when you are 28% or 14,000 miles over the ALLOWABLE mileage and you are ANGRY (see little face you used). 3) So you want to TRANSFER your EXPENSE back to GM even though YOU made the poor decision NOT to purchase extended coverage in spite of the HIGH mileage manner in which YOU USE your vehicle? You are kidding right? 4) If I am not mistaken, when you pay the $810 to have BOTH front struts repaired since you use your car for BUSINESS reasons, that $810 is a DIRECT WRITEOFF am I mistaken? Did you EVEN take time to read your warranty? The warranty is 50,000 for a reason, how many bumps have you hit?, how many pot holes? YOU don't think you should pay for the repairs on THIS new of a car? YOU HAVE 64,000 MILES YOU ARE OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? You are kidding me right? In addition, this has NOTHING to do with JUSTICE! It has to do with FACTS Do me a favor PM me the name of the dealer so I can call them and tell them you don't deserve the 10% because you are out here IMPLYING you are being WRONGED! Bruce Nunnally
/shrug, out of warranty is out of warranty. One reason I keep my car under warranty is not to pay out of pocket for stuff. That said, my extended warranty cost may end up being more than your repair cost during the same period. Which suspension do you have? Base FE1, lux FE2, Sport FE3? $900 to fix both is high by x2 or so. I would check prices for the 2 struts then ask a local mechanic for a quote on install. Nothing magic here. I see front AND rears on ebay from KYB for $379 for example. Install should be maybe two hours, so all 4 at $579 is less than 2 at $900. Definitely check rockauto.com or autoanything.com for discount oem or aftermarket parts. The rears may be more expensive for the FE2 or FE3 because they use the nivomat self-levelling shocks. The fronts are just regular struts; rockauto says $101 ea for a brand new FE2 or FE3 strut or $95 for a FE1. So, again, even with S&H you can get the fronts done for $200 in parts for both plus installation. Should be a LOT cheaper than $900. No I am not, it takes a lot of gall to pose the question that you did with an angry face and stating JUSTICE.... MrEldo97
Jeez 64000 miles on struts seems to be a reasonable service life to me.
joeb
ok, you don't think a shock should fail at 64k miles. thats your opinion. what is wrong with it by the way? leaking or what?
BodybyFisher
I had all 4 struts and springs fail at 56,000 miles/7 years in the new york city area. When I purchased the car the RR strut was inoperable, so it failed at less than 56K. The car was on the ground as the springs has softened so badly, hitting rises and drops in the highway caused the car to hit the ground. The dealer said in had lost all its fluid. My reason for thinking it was premature falure is I've own cars that how over 100,000 miles and the struts were still good. I know we all probably have. Now is that pushing the limit probably. But we've all done it. As far as hitting how many potholes, not any more than if you had that same mileage over 5 years. Miles are miles. Sure I'm upset. Tell me you wouldn't if you were still paying $560 a month for another 2 years . Should I expect this vehicle to perform like the others I purchased for the same reasons, you bet. I'm a GM man. Always have been, always will be.
Texas Jim
That does seem like an awful quick failure .... it being a 2007 model. I too have ran struts over 100,000 miles...not ALL of them... but some of them. If they are standard struts, I would probably take it to an independent shop, maybe a brake / shock place...bite the bullet and get new front struts. I wouldn't LIKE IT... but thats what I would do. PS....I bought the extended warranty on my 2006, and that was one of the reasons. The struts on it are Magnetically Controlled and very expensive. Over a grand each..I think. BodybyFisher
Consider this, if they had done the service, they might have seen the leaky strut informed you of it and replaced it Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
joeb
what level suspension do you have? passive struts or electronic? since you have so few miles, why not just replace the bad strut, not the pair?
