98deville
what all do I need to change out the fuel pump..(as in parts) Do I just need the pump itself? http://198.208.187.182/internet/PartImage....acpartnbr=MU216 or do I need the module, strainer, tank seal and wiring harness I was going to order my own parts from rockauto
mhinchley
If the O-ring is included, change that too. If not and it is in good shape, it is ok. I would change it anyway to be safe. Outside of that, just the pump.

Not to bad either, you can change through the spare tire area without dropping tank.
Ranger
The pump should be down inside that container, for lack of a better word. That unit looks like the entire pump & sending unit. Last time I did one (not on a Caddy) the pump was servicable seperately. It was just removed from the sending unit and a new on was plugged on. On the one I did, the sending unit cost as much as the pump.
BodybyFisher
Now that we are on that discussion, I have been getting very eratic fuel level readings, sending unit? And do I dare replace the sending unit without the pump? mhinchley
I am pretty sure you can remove it from the top. Once you remove the access panel you will see......but pretty sure that you can.

Are you sure about this...I thought I had to drop the tank on a 1998 deville d'elegance... There is not an access panel through the trunk on the '98 Deville - you will need to drop the tank. I believe the 2000+ devilles and 98+ Sevilles have the access panel. Ranger
Do I have to pump out all the gas from my tank? I got a full tank. Only if you have to drop the tank. You need to do it for weight reduction. If you can access yours through the trunk, then there should be no need to drain.

Regis
Regarding the fuel pump, at least on my 94, the pump and sending unit came as a single unit (AC Delco) and fully assembled. Some after market brands listed the pump and sending unit seperately, however, some knowledgeable people informed me that the two parts should always be done together. Kind of like having 2 bald front tires but swapping only 1 for a new one. Once again this information is relevant to my 94 and may not apply to later years. 98deville
I've checked and switched different relays and nothing. I can't even hear the fuel pump turn on at all. Could it be the FPR or one of the wires on the pump?
