Two takes:  The extreme and long-winded rant about the transmission and RPM range seem more to be about how he expects the engine management to work, as in keeping the RPM range high as needed for a naturally-aspirated car or a small engine, AND, brake smoke does not mean that the brakes are on fire, or even that there is anything wrong.  This is a zero review.

Bruce, I recall the CTS-V Brembo brakes smoking quite a bit at the CTS-V Challenge but the brakes performed flawlessly all day.

Short redline?, 6,000 rpm?

My guess is this transmission has not been calibrated yet or it has been calibrated conservatively so as to not put the vehicle into a skid on wet ground, the downshift has a conservative delay.  But, once in the highest performance mode, that delay should be gone.

Yes, I don't think there was an issue with the Brembo brakes in this case.

He called his canyon pace moderate, I would say:  hardly; if I had to call it, I would say he was going about 9/10ths.  I'm thinking, the Caddy did real good; room for improvement sure, but does the competition really out perform as he alludes.  I'd have one (but wouldn't be driving his pace, much, if at all); certainly not his reckless  on public roads driving.

I was thinking, that because he wasn't getting engine braking from the downshift, he relied on the brakes more probably heating them up.  

That wasn't a leisurely drive with lots of turns, and it didn't sound as if the engine was loafing

No issue at all, they were probably new and just breaking in (pun intended).

I once drove my Chevrolet Kingswood 9-passenger wagon up Mt. Washington in NH.  Driving down, there were frequent signs to pull over and cool your brakes, but with ventilated front disks and huge drum rears I had no fade, so I didn't pull over.  When I eventually did, they were smoking, particularly the rear.  Some clown pulled up and wanted to squirt water on my brakes and I told him to leave the car alone.  It was fine.  I drove it for years afterward and never got a brake job.

I think that the reviewer embarrassed himself on many levels.
