Bruce Nunnally
Cadillac denies the story, but the logic that if the factory closes the models made there will be retired certainly seems logical. cdgrinci
Johann has specifically denied that the CT6 is on the chopping block; I don't know if he was as candid for the XTS. englishman
Curious to know if the factory and dealer would close what about the parts and accessories of each model? Would it be hard to find?
Logan
Contrary to what you may have heard.....there is no Federal law regarding how long parts must be made available. That said...GM does try to keep parts available for 7-10 years. They do better at it vs. some of the newer auto makers. You should have no worries about parts being available. GM really does not make parts like they use to 50 years ago. They seem more interested in building the powertrain and the body-in-white. Many parts are made by outside suppliers and are shipped to the line just-in-time. Even body color trim comes into the plant already painted and ready to install for example. Headlights, grilles, seats, wire harness, carpet, radios, clusters, glass, sunroofs etc all get shipped in ready to bolt to the car. Some operations....like doors and wheels and tires are sometimes built by outside suppliers right inside the plant. cdgrinci
Johan D. announced that at the next model cycle, '19, that the XTS, CTS and ATS will yield to a new vehicle, called the CT4. And subsequently a new smaller sedan, I'm guessing CT2 or CT3 will be introduced. The alphabet soup sure is getting confusing. cdgrinci
There is a new Buick Regal GS coming out for '18; it is to have the HF (high feature) 3.6 L that is in the XT5. The Buick will also have a nine speed tranny; I can't see the Cadillac with less. The non-GS '18 Regal will have a four, so maybe the Caddy with also offer both (or maybe more) depending on trim level.
