1975 Cadillac Deville 30K miles in showroom condition, fully maintained

Recommended Posts

The other day, I had a small job at an elderly couple's home. Very sweet couple close to 90. The husband is frail due to a very bad back but he is sharp as a tack. During our initial discussion I found out that he used to operate an auto repair shop in town for 40 years and now his son operates it. Hmmm interesting. One thing lead to another and I start talking about Cadillacs and working on them. His face lit up like a 100 watt bulb and he said come here I want to show you something. He slowly leads me to the two car garage door with his walker assisting him slowly opens the door and said turn on the light its on the left. I turn on the light and pow, low and behold is a 1975 Cadillac COUPE Deville shining like a diamond in a mine. I walk over and he says, it has 30,000 miles on it and he has all of the maintenance records, bought it new, its his baby. It looks like it just came out of the showroom, my heart was racing and I was smiling ear to ear. It was an awesome sight.

He said he thought it was worth $15,000

Being a fan of the Barrett Jackson tv series, I thought oh no, this car is worth $50 grand...maybe more... Well, talk is cheap, I searched the Barrett Jackson archives and ehh, they sell but they sell for no more than $10,000, wow, I am shocked. I did manage to find an Ebay closed sale for $15,000 with more mileage. So he was right, it was worth $15,000 and I let my enthusiasm for the car get me into the $50,000 strata

I am going to ask them if they would LET me drive them out to the farms stands one day in it, I did the trip in my 66 it would be a flash back I am sure.

I just can't believe its only worth $15,000 but a restorer in the area here told me they are not in demand, now if it was a red 68 Corvette tri-carb 427..... that is a different story. Basic economics Supply and Demand, something this administration knows absolutely nothing about.

Sounds like a real barn er garage find. Actually the market among collectors may be better, but as you say not many collectors. Cadillac made a ton of cars during that period so it tends to be a buyer's market.

I liked the 75-76 Cadillacs but I wasn't crazy about the window in the c-pillar/sail panel on the Sedan DeVilles. The Coupe DeVilles and Fleetwood Broughams were nicer looking in my opinion.

Lincoln Town Cars of that era will bring $8000 in showroom condition. The Cadillac is probably worth slightly more. The problem with ebay and Barrett Jackson auctions is people let their emotions drive their bidding and the cars can sell for way over their actual value. It's really only worth what someone would pay for it.

I am going back at some point to do other work and will certainly bring my Nikon SLR and a full roll of film. I didnt want to look creepy bringing my camera the second day. I might suggest putting the car into a picturesque spot like the Montauk Point Lighthouse (about 100 miles away) to really show it off! Hey who knows nothing ventured nothing gained, and who better to have in the car than ME if anything goes wrong with it!

Its so funny, I had them trucking the car out there to Barrett, sitting in the audience as the original owners, what a story that would be. In my gut I think that this car with the story would draw better than $15,000. I was thinking putting a reserve on it of $15K would be the way to go, but them we could be trucking it back with MY tail between my legs if there was no interest. If anyone has any ideas, it would be cool thing to net this couple even $30,000, this is a special car. Ill post photos and beg to take them for a ride.

These were really sweet people, the type you connect with deeply upon meeting them.
