Tomah police have released compelling dash cam video of a police-involved shootout. The video shows a dramatic exchange of gunfire.

Police say 28-year-old Seth McCloskey got out of his vehicle during a traffic stop with the intent to kill police officers. They exchanged gunfire.

McCloskey got back into his vehicle while officers continued to shoot.

It's been determined that McCloskey was killed by police fire. The Monroe County District Attorney praised the officers for their actions. He said that the video justifies how they handled the potentially deadly situation.

"These officers performed admirably and did their duty. We should all be very proud of what they did," said DA Dan Cary. "Although it was sad that Mr. McCloskey lost his life, these officers did what they needed to do."

The Tomah Police Department is still waiting for ballistic results that could tie McCloskey to a drive-by shooting that also happened in Tomah.

They are lucky to be alive, this guy attemped to kill them unprovoked, he cut off that Mercedes, probably looking at the police car. And yet, the DA makes this wimpy comment?

"Although it was sad that Mr. McCloskey lost his life, these officers did what they needed to do."

SAD? What is wrong with the world?, why so soft?

This is what should have been said,

Thank God the police were not injured or killed, this guy (no formal name on purpose) got what he deserved and we are lucky to have him off the street before he killed one of our neighbors!

What has happened to all of the Alpha Males? Why did he need to couch his statement? This was an unprovoked attack on police authority, imagine this becoming the norm?, it should be presented as horrific and dead wrong. Sad that he lost his life, gimme a break

Guys..... :( Better if there were no guns! :sign0024: Bad temper and drugs once resulted in at worse a fistfight. :fighting0030: Today it is solved by killing....

Goran, in an ideal world that is true. And while I am not happy this guy died, he pulled a gun on police officers SITTING in a car who stopped him for erratic driving. I am sure there is more to this story as to why he jumped out with his gun blazing.

The police are our final fire wall before total anarchy. I love the idea of being pacifist but as they say, walk softly and carry a big stick.

We have many here including the current administration who think that banning guns is the thing to do, I think they are a deterrent and keep in mind that the bad guys will always have guns and its not likely that will ever be corrected. It is unfortunate that there is evil and bad guys in the world, hopefully they don't drive Cadillacs

You are right, BBF, about the bad guys always being armed but, do you really think they will fire them less often if everyone else is carrying? And how often do "god guys" missinterprate situations and fire at f.i. a kid whit a toygun or a neibour holding a cellphone or something else.

I know one thing, I personally would be reluctant to break into someones house during the night if I THOUGHT that they had a gun, no gun?, I might walk in with no fear... the thought that there might be a gun is a deterrent, there are many studies but see this one

I am not trying to start an argument, but I have to strongly disagree with you.

I have a permit to carry a gun... and I do carry one... a Colt .45, Model 1911.

I carry it almost everywhere I go.

If you try to hurt me or my family...or come breaking into my house, or try to carjack me.... I "WILL" kill you.... period...end of story.

I don't believe in shooting to wound someone... I believe in shooting till they are not breathing anymore.

Then they will never do bad things to anyone else...ever again.

But that's just me and the way "I" feel about it.

I wish more law abiding citizens carried guns.

If there had been JUST ONE person with a gun the other day when that total nutcase shoot a senotor and several other people ... all of that carnage would not have happened.

The nutcase would have got off one or two shots and the citizen would have dropped him in his tracks.

But that was a LIBERAL Senator, and Liberals don't like guns... so as a result... several people got shot and a couple of people are now dead.

I, personally think that anyone that wants to ban guns just doesn't have enough information to know what is really going on... or is just misguided or want's us to be SUBJECTS of the Government instead of FREE CITIZENS of our Republic.

Thank you to Mr. Madison and others, the first ten amendaments (AKA the Bill of Rights) to the Constitution of the United States of America protects the right to keep and bear arms (Second Amendment). Just one more direct rebutal of the remote policies of King George III.

In a sad testimony to the incipient creep to the political left, states have passed CCW laws and are issuing permits to law-abiding citizens. Why is that even necessary?

In fact, there are 4 (?) states where the "concealed" part is not required.

I understand the occasional mistake, a home owner killing someone they thought was a burgler when it turns out to be their son/daughter. Owning a weapon carries a lot of restraint and responsibility. Heck owning a Corvette or a CTSV can be a weapon if it is not respected.

Home break-in's are my biggest fear.

While I know that Hollywood gets a pass because of the first amendment, I think there is too much focus on guns in movies, etc. But then you have FPS (first person shooter) video games where you run through shooting everything in sight.

We have laws that come down hard on crimes where a gun is used and I think that is great, but restraint and responsibility is most important.

The cat is out of the bag, guns are prevalent, to take them off of law abiding citizens at this point is foolish, accidents happen and there are risks crossing the street, heck a few years ago, I was standing on a corner waiting for a light to cross looking west on Fifth Avenue in New York City and turned east and the mirror from a BUS doing about 30 MPH just missed my head by a fraction of an inch, I would have been killed, now I am 6'5" but that should NEVER be possible. Risks and accidents do happen.

Still love guns?

To your first question...

I have been robbed...

I was working 2nd shift and the sorry company I worked for had a VERY STRICT... NO GUNS policy.

You couldn't even have it in your locked car on the guarded parking lot.

As I pulled into my driveway about 1am... a car came speeding down the street...slid to a stop and two guys jumped out.

One has a sawed off, double barreled shotgun and ran up and put it against my forehead ... all the time hollering and screaming and cursing, that he wanted my wallet and the cellphone I had in my hand.

Since I was unarmed.. I had no choice but to give it to him.

All I could do was go in the house and call the police... which did absolutely NO GOOD WHATSOEVER...

If I had been armed, I could have shot them as the ran back to their car... which, "IF" I had been armed, is EXACTLY what I would have done.

I "Texas Jim" would have been the LAST ONE they ever robbed.

As it turned out, they were later caught, but not before c omitting more armed robberies

The two men who got robbed after I did were both shot, one of them 4 times...for no reason...except the robbers were total scumbags that should have already been DEAD... and would have been if I had been armed that night they robbed me.

The last guy tey robbed, was getting groceries out of the trunk of his car, and they ran up behind him and shot him five times... killing him and leaving a widow and 3 small children with no father.

Now for the daughter losing her keys...

Well, in the scenario you posited...the daughter would ring the doorbell of the neighbor or knock on the door... and then ask for help.

She wouldn't be going over there and kicking the door in.

We don't shoot just "ANYONE" who comes to the door.. :) :)

You ascertain..to the best of your ability, who it is, what do they want and what are their intentions.

Then you act/react accordingly...

I am an old man...

I am Military trained with weapons.

I spent two tours in Vietnam.

I have taken handgun training courses as a civilian

I have taken Urban Survival courses.

I will "NOT" be robbed again... I will "NOT" be a victim again...

I hope I didn't start an international incident by commenting how the DA was wimpy. I thought it was quite clear that the worst thing someone can do is shoot at police, let alone shooting at anyone. To me, the shooter deserves what he gets in that situation. Laws and Authority are there for everyone's protection.

Goran, I don't know much about Sweden but I was aware that Sweden is a Pacifist nation and it is possible that our opinions differ 180 degrees. In spite of Sweden's Pacifist stance in 2007 your artist Lars Vilks created a huge controversy with his drawing and got death threats and police raised the security level around newspapers. THREE years later, in 2010, 7 people from Morocco and Yemen were arrested in a plot to assassinate Vilks, all for a simple drawing of Muhammad. THEN in 2010, there was a suicide bombing that based on an email right before the bombing was a result of Vilks Muhammad drawing. Vilks has gotten death threats, I wonder if he carries a weapon to protect himself? Maybe bodyguards? All of this for a drawing?

I really hope that Sweden can continue to be pacifist, I really do. As you can see, there IS illogical evil out there, and I hope that Sweden has not made themselves a target as a result of a simple drawing. Personally, I think the US needs to pull all its troops back home from around the world, no one appreciates it anyway and we are looked down on for it, countries that have had the luxury of the US's protection need to step up and fight evil. Lets face the fact that the US is on the other side of the pond and that has afforded us a level of security European nations don't have, in spite of that, 9/11 changed that thought forever. EVIL is everywhere, and I believe we are experiencing 1939 all over again.

This is a scary statement:

In a survey conducted by Taylor Nelson Sofres on behalf of the UK-based think tank Open Europe in March 2007, 56% of the Swedish respondents agreed with the statement that "Islamic fundamentalism is a serious threat for our country

  • 3 weeks later...

I do not disagree with you at all on gun control. The guy got what he deserved and he saved the taxpayers a lot of money not to have to go to trial and sit in prison. But, The only thing that concerns me about this, especially in this type of situation. If you look, he is in a residential neighborhood with houses all around. How many stray bullets hit those houses in both directions? Anyone in those houses could have heard the gunshots and looked out the window only to be shot by either side. I know officers are trained to look past the shooter but sometimes time does not allow that. I had the very situation happen in my neighborhood not to long ago. My neighbor behind me decided to go crazy with a shot gun. When neighbors called and complained about him shooting in the air he decided to shoot and wound the 2 officers that answered the call then barrackaded himself in his trailer. My wife and kids had just gotten home and heard the first shots, I got home shortly after. At that time there was speculation that he had escaped into my woods behind my house. My wife grabbed our 45 and I took the kids to their grandparents 3 miles away. When I got back I was stopped by Police and was not allowed to go to my house just 100 yards up the hill. I called my wife and told her to stay put in the middle of the house away from the windows. After a standoff for 4 hours I managed to get home. I called first to tell her I was coming. She was on the stairs with the 45 in her hands ready to shoot anything that came in the door. The standoff lasted another 3 hours and ended when he decided to shoot at the 20 or more officers that had setup up all around his house. It sounded like WW3. They shot over 500 rounds into the trailer and missed him. He then gave himself up after the trailer caught fire from the gunshots. The only reason he was not shot then was because they had all ran out of ammo. From his mugshot he had been severly beaten. The houses directly behind his had several gunshots one was not home but the farthest away was. I never found any bullet holes in my house and I was glad we had the 45. He is still in jail but we are still afraid he will get out and move back in. The officers survived also. I just wish they would have hit him. Other than that I live in a safe area. It was the first time in 20 years I had seen my wife handle the gun, I was so proud of her.

For Paul T....

I feel for you... especially the part where your wife was home alone.

I would hate it if something like that happened around my house... but at least my wife does know how to use our pistols and the short barreled 12 gauge shotgun.

Too bad the cops didn't kill the scumbag in your neighborhood.

Would have saved the taxpayers a lot of money and been one less case clogging up the court system.

In my opinion, a large majority of cops need to be taught better gun handling.

When the STUFF hits the fan... way too many of them go into the SPRAY AND PRAY mode instead of using AIMED FIRE.

500 rounds without hitting him is totally crazy and reflects a severe lack of training and weapon discipline.
