Yes. Wot is what is needed. You probably consume oil too.

Put the gear shift in "2", and abruptly accelerate on a Highway till you hit ~75. Do not floor the gas pedal. then take your foor off the gas & let the car slow you down to about 40, then do it again. repeat this 5 times.

Does not WOT (Wide Open Throttle) imply flooring the pedal?

First off I want to thank you for this advice, I havn't had time to do this but I will asap.

Now you also mention that I may be consuming oil also, well you are so right I have to put a quart in every two weeks or so, I can't see that it leaks so it must be burning, but what I would like to know is how do you know? do this also have somthing to do with Wot, like I said the car only has 54k this isn't normal is it.

Please can you help me out here.

Thanks,

Mac Burns

To elaborate on wintersets wot procedure, this procedure 'exercises' the rings and sort of re-seats them. When you take your foot off the gas at 75 and allow the tranny to haul the car down to 40, negative pressure is created in the combustion chambers and carbon is blown out of the cylinder. When you first do this you will notice clouds of smoke out of the rear view mirror but as time goes on, the clouds will lessen.

I did the procedure with my 96 about once a quarter, most of the time, entering freeways I WOT coming off the entrance ramp to about 75, its sort of like a stretching routine...

Be careful doing these, and NEVER do them in wet weather, safety first

The Northstar was built to be beaten, babying it will cause it to run sluggish, knock, build up carbon, burn oil, etc With its propensity to pull head bolts, doing the WOT procedure for me is a paradox but its also exhilarating to hear this 32 valve engine open up

I love that sound...:yupi3ti:

I do WOT whenever I get a chance...not the full procedure...I just stand on it and let it sing to me.. :)

OK. I have been doing a partial WOT also - but it works. just abrupt acceleration, and I see black soot blowing out the back. I guess I don't want to put my engine under unnecessary stress. Additionally, I use Marvel Mystery oil in my fuel to help free things up inside. I know that many don't believe in addititatives, and GM (The ones who built the car), don't recommend any, but it works for me. I am leaning mor on just a heavier foot sometimes so the carbon doesn't gum up the works.

BTW Moose, make sure you don't overfill your oil, or you will end up with a gummy intake. oil should be checked engine OFF engine HOT. if you fill to the full mark when it's cold, you will most likely have overfilled. when overfilled, it gets sucked into the intake through the PCV.

Two birds with one stone. An occasional WOT will cure your cold carbon rap AND reduce your oil consumption. The fact that it has the same effect as Viagra is an added benefit. It is however, somewhat addictive.

It's been my impression you do NOT WOT whenever you get a chance! :)

Well, let's say we all know your gas pedal wears out faster than the brake one. :)
