KHE
The oil pan on my '96 Seville has been seeping oil for awhile now. I was not concerned until it began dripping to the ground. The shop manual states to remove the engine (which I do not want to do...). I was thinking about builting an engine support (like the one in the shop manual) that mounts on the strut towers and uses chains and turnbuckles to attach to the lift tings on the engine. Could the subframe then be removed in order to remove the exhaust crossover and gain access to the oil pan? joeb
yes. your talking about the same procedure to do the case half seals as well. of course removing the subframe is a major PITA but you can do it.

BodybyFisher
That is a good pic Joe, I could not imagine dropping the carriage frame, but I guess, with proper powertrain support from above, it wouldnt be too bad We had a GM tech here that used to do this job named IAN Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
KHE
To me, it looks a lot easier than pulling the engine. I'll probably put that job on my to-do list for this fall. jackc
We had a GM tech here that used to do this job named IAN There used to be a photo essay around that Ian had done for the case half seal repair. I looked around for it the other day, but came up empty. He was working it from the bottom.

BodybyFisher
Thanks Bruce! That is the thread, with photos! I recall that when I originally saw this thread, I had a 4.9, so the NS platform was foreign to me. I look at that thread now, and it has MUCH more meaning to me..
