SPreston2001
Hi guys, as you probably know I havent been a member of this forum for very long but I plan on sticking around awhile. I have read numerous post to better educate myself on the Northstar platform and I have noticed alot of you refer to "The Guru". Does "The Guru" still frequent the forum? I would like to introduce myself to him and spark a discussion. Thanks

I would like to introduce myself to him and spark a discussion. Thanks He does not come around anymore, we have not seen him in years. BodybyFisher
I do not believe he went anywhere else. It is our understanding that as an employee of GM they forbit him from participating. We surmised that it was the result of potential liability with any advice he might give through this medium. I also believe that he received flak from another site that will remain unknown that might have contributed to his demise. It never ceases to amaze me how negative, nasty and rotten some people can be. Just look at some of the negative and nasty responses this gentleman received.... some of these guys are low lifes. I wish they would stop with the GM private jet issue, its NO ONES business, I am sure its a flying office, this is the CEO of a MAJOR corporation, he does NOT need to be traveling in a commercial airliner, even in first class. I think many of GMs problems are the result of the high labor cost that they have been encumbered with in conjunction with CONGRESS and the STATES permitting foreign manufactures to produce cars with tax incentives and non labor union. I think its AMAZING how much GM has turned it around when you consider that their average salary is $73 compared to Toyota in the $30's. How much more could GM improve the cars if they had an average salary of say $40? I currently have a rental car, its a Pontiac G6, what a nice car it is. Look at what some of these malcontents had to say: http://fastlane.gmblogs.com/archives/2008/...l#comment-80096 Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
RalPh
Gee, I'd be really surprised if it were GM.... Although we all ended-up knowing his real name & email I would think it would have been easy enough to re-register as a new persona and never let on that he was a GM engineer. - Who would know??? I've always assumed it was the abuse he got here that took the "wind from his sails" . He should have been given Mod status and allowed to deal with the trolls himself. That's why I had hoped he might be elsewhere where his importance could have been recognized as an Admin/Mod and not lost to those boobs. Too bad...... I HATE to have lost such a wonderful resource! Cadillac Jim
I've been in industry for many years and I think I understand what the problem was. All companies must control what their voice to the world says. That's done through their Publications and PR departments. Anything that is sent to the outside world, be it interviews to the media, publications including technical journals and books, or written material made available outside the company must be approved by the one or both of these departments. Criteria for release include prevention of making possible frivolous litigation, so anything that represents any possible interpretation of commitment by the company is prohibited. Any information from an identifiable employee or representative of GM that may be interpreted in a way that damages reputation or business interests of the company is prohibited. Any technical information that can be construed as evidence that the Company or its representative or employee made a decision that results in an actionable tort is prohibited. Thus a GM powertrain engineer that is recognized as such thus cannot be allowed to make posts on pubic forums that are not cleared through Publications, just like a press release. In point of fact, quite possibly they were, and workload on Publications may have been a factor. But, I think the defining issue was generating opportunity for frivolous litigation by a growing body of posts, no matter how well scrubbed the posts may have been. I seriously doubt that anyone with the professional credentials of a GM powertrain engineer would not have developed rhino-thick skin along the way of getting there. In fact, the guru's handling of an occasional troll have made the classics list, such as, to a particularly obnoxious troll, "When you're done, stick a fork in yourself and leave." -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Ranger
Although we all ended-up knowing his real name & email I would think it would have been easy enough to re-register as a new persona and never let on that he was a GM engineer. - Who would know??? I've seen him elsewhere under a different screen name, but not in some time now. He would never admit to who he is or was. I've always assumed it was the abuse he got here that took the "wind from his sails" He thrived on debates. It was much more serious than that. I wasn't saying he would have to hide from us I remember his reaction to the trolls, it Was NOT as cavalier as you all seem to remember. I don't think he was so thick skinned towards them - look back and you'll see. Again, Mod status MAY have made the difference..... If he never announced his affiliation with GM, there by implying his statements were those of GM management, then he's just a Very knowledgeable private citizen with opinions. I sure he could have created a reasonable "cover story"
BodybyFisher
I knew him for about 6 years. It was IMPOSSIBLE for him to remain annonmous. He is exposed instantaneously and people seeked him out. Which really surprised me was not the knowledge of the man, but rather his unconditional willingness to SHARE that knowledge again and again and again. I hope he is doing better than GM and we will see him some day again. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent
Cadillac Jim
No, it would take minutes, or whenever he composed his first substantive post about a powertrain, whichever came first. Perhaps hours. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
