BodybyFisher
Let me try to explain this. Lately, I have been putting KNOWN GOOD URL addresses into the address bar on explorer and my browser does not go directly to the web site, to shows a Microsoft Live Search page with site choices/options including the site I wanted in the first place, I refuse to click that and usually close the page, do the exact same thing, in a new browser page and it usually goes to the site I wanted. WHY the H, is MS LIVE SEARCH getting INVOLVED AT ALL? I have searched for reasons but have not found anything. Secondly, today, I put www.adobe.com in my address bar and clicked enter, I was redirected to a VERIZON search page where it says that it is powered by YAHOO search. And I get the following message > Sorry, 'www.xn--this-is-unexisting-dmain-4tt.xn--m-0tbi' does not exist or is not available. HUH? I did NOT type, 'www.xn--this-is-unexisting-dmain-4tt.xn--m-0tbi', I typed www.abobe.com What is goinsg wrong? Then I went to another browers screen typed in www.abobe.com and it went to Adobe's site. Anyone see this behavior before. Have I been hi-jacked? I looked at add-ins and don't see anything odd. My searches are slower tha Karo syrup. Something is wrong. Where do I start? And don't say dump IE and go with Firefox, I won't do that. WarrenJ
I don't ordinarily use IE, but I just gave it a test run w/o any problems. Any chance your DNS has been changed? Any chance your DNS is "on-the-blink?" Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. Texas Jim
Mike, Are you using IE6 or IE7? XP or Vista? IE6 on my laptop (XP) got pretty flaky on this last trip. It would time out.. not go to KNOWN GOOD sites.. etc etc. Even when it did halfway work... it was so slow as to be almost unusuable. I didn't want to but I did DL Firefox and use it. Don't care much for it, but at least it worked. I have not had time to disect what is wrong with IE on the laptop, but when I do, I will let you know. Maybe we BOTH have been compromised. It's possible.
WarrenJ
Are you using IE6 or IE7? XP or Vista? I'm a Vista user and I cannot even begin to describe how horrible it was to have been a "bleeding edge" user. It was released as beta. A couple bazillion updates later the system is now stable. Irrelevant, I know, but I simply had to get that out of my system. Regards, Warren There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. My son did the same thing when he built his last computer...and HE KNOWS BETTER. He is a System Analyst for Bank of America. We have owned computers for 25 years. Starting with the Apple llE. (Thats a long time ago) Just sitting here thinking... if I had all the money I have spent on computers in the last 25 years... I could probably go write a check for a BRAND NEW 2009 DTS Platinum Edition. But look at all the fun I would have missed... Learning BASIC and PASCAL.. so I could write programs. Staying up all night writing and then de-bugging the stupid programs. Paying $250.00 for a 20 MEG (not GIG..MEG) hard drive, and then having to use DEBUG to program the controller to make the new IBM XT see the hard drive. Who would EVER need more than 20 meg of storage? At least that what we thought WAY BACK THEN. Spending big bucks to upgrade from a mono monitor to a CGA monitor. (CGA is only 4 color) The early modems (around 300 bucks) had an acoustic coupler that you had to place the phone receiver in. Very much noise in the room... connection would drop. Oh ... and it was 110 baud. But BYCRACKEY I was ONLINE. As long as no one made much noise. Then 300 baud Then 1200 baud Then 2400 baud and so on and so on to this very day. Now using a P4 with 1 gig of RAM. 512 meg video card. 1.3 TERRABYTES of hard drives and a 3 MBPS DSL line. It is about time to build a new PC. This one is about 3 or 4 years old thus the fun starts anew. It is a never ending cycle.
WarrenJ
At my work facility we currently have storage for about 2 months of video (w/Dolby E) for about 40 channels. Yep, I understand the terabyte things. My first modem was 300 baud. I thought that neat: text scrolled down my screen at just about the speed I could read it. WOW! could it get any better? 1200 baud: Dammit, faster than I could read the stuff. 2400 baud: Oh, crap! It's only gotten worse since. I could read faster than 110. After getting the 1200, it was a lot faster than I could read at first. Over a little time and with much concentration, I brought my reading speed up to probably about 900 or 1000. Had to use CONTROL X every once in a while to stop it, so that I could catch up. By the time I got the 2400, "IF" no one else was in the room and I could TOTALLY concentrate on it.. I could almost read at 1200. I read slower NOW than I did then. Now whole papes popup in the blink of an eye.

I know that MS last week had a BUNCH of security updates, a few of which were problematic. Who knows. WarrenJ
I don't expect there is an IE problem. Suppose, however, there is. Just run Firefox for a few days and come back after the dust settles. I need to see what the fix is. I also have McAfee on my laptop and I remember NOW, that I also dl'ed a bunch of updates while on vacation two weeks ago. That is probably my problem also. Heading for McAfee website.
Texas Jim
Mike, Do you have MS UPDATE KB951748 and ZONE ALARM? It is not McAfee like I said earlier... It is a conflict with ZONE ALARM. http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pre...ccessIssue.html

Marika
Recently, I read or heard somewhere that hackers are flooding DNS servers with malformed URL's causing anyone who types in a particular URL in their browser to be sent to a different website. Basically, the hackers alter the look up tables on these DNS servers. At present, no one seems to have a solution for the problem. However, Firefox seems better able to detect the switchover than IE. Read here for additional information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_cache_poisoning If you really want to make people safe drivers again then simply remove all the safety features from cars. No more seat belts, ABS brakes, traction control, air bags or stability control. No more anything. You'll see how quickly people will slow down and once again learn to drive like "normal" humans. Cadillac Jim
I have two suggestions that may help: Update your virus checker and run a scan -- if it' one of those that finds malicious browser extensions and tracking cookies. Open Tools -> Internet Options, click on the Advanced tap, then click on the button labeled "Reset..." Close and reopen IE and it should be OK> I was going to add "try Firefox" but that's been said. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars.
