Engine Mounts

Recommended Posts

I need to replace my front engine mount, I can feel the engine rock on acceleration. I replaced the left mount when I did the ISS sensor.

Has anyone done this job?

Be sure that the torque dogbone bolts are really tight. I see you replaced them last year. When I did that, after awhile the engine would rock and I found that I didn't tighten the bolts enough. To hold properly, they need more torque than a good tightening with a 3/8" ratchet. I went to a 1/2" ratchet and a really good tightening and that did it. The torque is 44 lb-ft (FSM page 6-47). The first step in changing the motor mounts (FSM page 6-46, where your picture came from) is removing these anyway.

In a way, I have done that job... When I Timeserted my '97 STS, I couldn't get the engine back in the car with the front mount attached to the engine. I removed the rubber mount, got the engine in the car and bolted to the trans. I then used a jack to raise the engine - a piece of 2x6 works well to spread the load across the oil pan. I raised the engine enough to obtain the clearance to install the mount and then lowered it into place.

You'll need to remove the dogbones prior to starting the repair, mine were already off due to the engine R&R.

WOW, I was quoted $107 from gmotors.com. Is that mount ok?, some are hydraulic and some are not. I have not looked at it yet, but if you feel its ok, I am on it... Thanks for the heads up that's great, Mike

Mike i think i called 50 different auto stores to get that mount! even had one place tell me they had it and when they delivered it, it was wrong. funny thing is, i hear the front center is the one that usually goes bad... called the dealer and they said $170.. i think i passed out for about 5min.

Ah come on... first, you have restored that car to new condition. Second, broads don't know the difference between a STS or a Sedan DeVille, all they see is CADILLAC.......
