noluck
I know most questions here are mechanical but I hope someone can help me. The radio, A.M. F.M.w/cass., in my 1996 Deville has volume trouble. When the car is running the volume keeps creeping up. It will do it when the car is sitting parked with the egine running or driving down the road. It will NOT do it with the key in Acc. or with the Key On Engine Off. only while engine is running. I have tried bumping the dash while engine off but it does not make the volume go up. Any help out there?
sonjaab
I wonder if your Caddy has the speed controlled volume feature and it may be activated???????? I know my GM trucks of that year have it. Can't remember if my 96 Deville had it? Anyone????....................... 93 DeVille-13 Chevy Impala 72 GTO - 77 Triumph Bonneville 84 Z-28 Syracuse NY
BodybyFisher
Its possible that your steering wheel volume control is intermittant shorted, run your codes and see if you have any U codes.... Cadillac Jim
I don't believe that my 1997 has it, but I have the Bose with CD changer with DSP, and it's a different radio. If the radio volume stays up when you slow down, that isn't it. The volume control on my radio is a digital control, and yours may be too; if the volume knob spins freely with detents, it's a digital control. If so, you might have a lot of noise on the 12 Volt line. Cleaning the battery cables, both the positive cable and the ground cable, should clear it. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. I dont have to drive the car for the volume to go up. Shortly after I start the car and leave it in drive it will start to go up. I am not getting any error codes at all. BodybyFisher
Check and post your codes. Its possible you have shorted steering wheel controls Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
PAUL T
Your problem may lie in why your steering wheel controls don't work. You might try unhooking the battery for about 5 minutes, this will allow any memory that may be built up in the radio to clear. It worked for my 94 Concours, the volume would only come on at a level just a little to high to bear. Had the battery unhooked for some other service and the radio volume has worked fine since then.
