Astrak
I just purchased a factory service manual off of e-Bay for my 92 Eldo, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the factory service manual over the Chilton manual?

BodybyFisher
Chiltons is for very basic tasks at best, the FSM provides indepth details. As Fred mentioned there is no comparison. This is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWN%3AIT does that look like a FSM.

The Fred
Those FSM books are great.. Chilton just makes me mad and angry.. it gives vague off the wall nonsense that might or might not apply to your car. MerryChristmas Be a Capitalist or work for one. Work for a Capitalist or be one. Cadillac Jim
I like to use a Chiltons, Motors or other good non-factory manual to supplement the FSM. I would never take on a big job without the FSM, though. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. epricedright
I have 2 FSM's for my 94 Deville. Does the '92 Eldorado not have 2?
Regis
I have both and like Jim I like Chiltons for small jobs and it's pretty much useless for bigger jobs. That's where the GM bible comes in. Sometimes the job doesn't require reading War And Peace but simply scanning through Cliff's Notes (not that I've *cough* ever used it). BodybyFisher
I have 2 FSM's for my 94 Deville. Does the '92 Eldorado not have 2? Astrak
Ok I just got the FSM and it kicks *smurf* I was able to actually fix my IPC problem in about a half hour. I just had a bad connection on C1 of the IPC connector 2.
BodybyFisher
Good Job.. I read the FSM in the bathroom, great reading, LOVE IT .....much better than Readers Digest... Astrak
Ok never mind it didn't fix it. I have tested pin M on the ALDL and get a fluxuating voltage this means that the PCM is still communicating to the IPC but there must be an open on the 800 board. So the FSM says to repair the 800 CKT board... ok well what do I repair on the board? Or am I even right in thinking that PCM is still communicating? Or could the ACP be the problem but the ACP sets no codes? This problem is driving me nuts.
Poobah
I have 2 FSM's for my 94 Deville. Does the '92 Eldorado not have 2? The 1994 manuals cover the Deville in addition to the Eldorado and Seville. Also the 1994 manuals have to cover both the 4.9 liter V8 and the Northstar power trains. Happiness is owning a Cadillac with no codes.
