I understand there is some redesigned cover seal that I must buy also can someone post a scan or photo of what seal I need? I am buying a Lisle wp socket also..($24) One more thing turn it clockwise to remove? It took me about 2-1/2 hours start to finish the first time. I used a 2' piece of pipe for leverage to get my pump off. I just used steady pressure and it finally let loose and came right off. The lisle tool is not heavy duty so don't over due it and strip the tabs off, just be patient with steady pressure. Study the new part and you will see how it attaches. Good Luck. I was going to video tape the job and put it up on Photobucket... I hear you with its easy, I can remember spending 5 hours changing the big CRAB water pumps on my Dad's Caddy's when I was a kid, if I recall correctly the 429 was a hard pump to use and it had an o-ring fitting at the top... Those were backbreaking jobs... Hey thanks for that info, I appreciate it. I knew something was re-designed, but I thought it was the seal. Should I get that redesigned cover or do I need it only if mine is leaking? It was corroded enough that I ended up breaking several tabs. I ended up going to a place that had an impact wrench and it poped right off even using my damaged socket. I bought one form the dealer (Chevy) for my '97 that was seeping, but never got around to replacing it before I sold it. I think it was around $10. The problem was the pump was on there tight enough that no length of breaker bar would have removed it. I used about a 4 ft breaker bar that not only broke a couple tabs but also broke the ratcheting mechanism on my 1/2" Craftsman's ratchet. What the water pump needed was the hammer action of a strong impact wrench to break that static friction that was so high. The thing is, I had started off trying to get it off with a 250 lbs of torque impact wrench at home but that wasn't enough so I used the breaker bar and that broke my tool so I ended up having to go to a shop that had a stronger impact wrench.
