Bruce Nunnally
As an experiment I ordered a GM Tech 2 from Hong Kong on Sunday. Something shipped today, on Tuesday, and I am hoping will arrive within 5 days. Then we will see what comes in the box, how well it works, etc. Advertised as a working Tech 2 w CANDI module, 32M card, accessories, software, etc. Stay tuned, anything could happen. airmike
Did you find that on the xlr forum? If so it is the one I have and works well. Hope you have as good of luck as I have.
Bruce Nunnally
Not exactly, but I think the source is similar, and I am optimistic. I looked at who showed the most sales and best reputation then crossed my fingers and experimented. Bruce Nunnally
Well DHL says they are delivering something tomorrow, so we'll see -- but that would be very quick free delivery! James Woods
Good luck. I have heard good and bad about back channel or knock off tech 2. Iirc something about resistors or capicators going bad after a few years. Also I've been told to explore and play with the tech 2 but don't flash any modules until you used it a few hours to make sure its not going to crash and ruin a module. barczy01
Bruce your gonna be fine. i picked up the same clone you did 3 years ago from Hong Kong before I guess GM or someone shutdown the Ebay listing. I got the whole set-up you ordered for 650 shipped. I use this Tech 2 myself with no other hands on it and it works flawlessly. I just reprogrammed the BCM in a 2008 Arcadia for the passenger seat presence module for another shop because the fancy snap-on scanner couldn't do it. I just love the Tech 2 and it works as it should. I just had it updated at the dealer 3 months ago and no issues. Where did you find the above Tech2? James Woods
Just curious Bruce if you don't mind, how much did the whole setup cost? I bought a diagun x431 because it does a lot of manufactures. It does the German stuff great. The mercedes ,Vw, audi, Porsche are dead knock off of the factory scan tools. The menus and functions are identical to the OEM scan tools. Its like they copied exactly. Not sure on Japanese never used it on a Japanese car. The domestic stuff leaves a lot to be desired for. So that's why I am thinking of a tech 2 for my GM stuff. Thanks .
Bruce Nunnally
The GM Tech 2 is a military grade custom hand-held computer designed to enable the GM shop technician the insights and capabilities to diagnose and maintain their charges. GM has now replaced this system with a computer based MDI system. However, for vehicles like my 2007 Cadillac XLR or 2008 Cadillac STS-V, the Tech 2 can be a key diagnostic and repair tool. http://caddyinfo.com/wordpress/no-1-auto-diagnostic-tool-store-tech-2-cars-aliexpress-cadillac/ Bruce 2016 Cadillac ATS-V gray/black Follow me on: Twitter Instagram Youtube

Bruce Nunnally
Yes, you include in the comments when you order which 32M card you need, and language. Example I asked for GM English. I was concerned when I didn't see it in the box, but it was already installed in the unit. BodybyFisher
A few months ago I had a problem with my 2002 Monte Carlo, it would crank but not start, and as you know you can not retrieve the Body codes, without a Tech 2. I don't think I ever figured out what caused the problem, but I tore everything apart cleaning contacts, testing relays, changing ignition switch cylinder, etc. I come to find out that TONS of Monte Carlo owners have the same intermittent starting issues, its been fine, shhhh..... I was very limited in my ability to diagnose and it took a long time to figure out without a DTC roadmap. We are so spoiled as Cadillac owners with our ability to get all codes so easily. I need a Tech 2, my friend has two Northstars with a laundry list of codes. I also want to learn about what causes and how to diagnose U Network codes. James Woods
Having a great scan tool is kind of like having a pickup truck. Don't let everyone know or be ready to always be asked to help out someone. With my truck I got so tired of someone wanting to borrow it or have me stop by to move something I basically took uhauls price and halved it. Daily fee and per mile. Put a stop to that. If I'm around I'll clear a code to see what comes back after they drive a bit for free. If I am requested to diagnose its $45. The dealer I work at charges $145 for 1st hour of diag then $95 after that. Labor is $125 per hour

I can see my neighbor across the street loving me if I get one, he already borrows my $50, code reader My monte carlo is going to become a test bed LOL.... I will be glad to play with my friend's SLS and ETC, he has a TON of codes that I can diagnose. Can't wait. James Woods
Some of the GM joint venture cars you can do a lot on with a tech 2 also. Like a Toyota matrix. IIRC the tech 2 has a generic scanner mode where it'll work on any make model for general codes. Maybe a GM technician or a tech 2 owner can clarify. Or Bruce here soon. His toy should be here. I suggest just going around the neighborhood and scanning miscellaneous cars. Let me know how that works out.
Richj
Bruce, I saw your mention of using the TECH 2 in your video Blog post. Have you had a chance to use it again and if so, are you happy with it?
Bruce Nunnally
Yes, I am happy. I have been able to use it to connect to the XLR and use it. I had some problems out of the gate with how the interface module and cable connected (not as fool proof as thought), but I attribute to learning the tool rather than any inherent issue with buying that product from that source.
