jorgenw
I need to change Engine in my sts 99 I found a good Engine from 2001, but dealer say it wont fit in a 99 .. Anybody know something about that ?? And if it is possible , what do i need to modify then ?? Jörgen
barczy01
Dealer is correct it won't fit. 99 uses plug wires and 01 uses coil packs. Also, the cylinder heads and brackets are different on the 01' engine too. Where are you located ?

jorgenw
Maybe a stupid question !! Is it possible to mount the cylinderheads from the 99 to the 01 Engine ??
JimD
Maybe a stupid question !! Is it possible to mount the cylinderheads from the 99 to the 01 Engine ?? Not a good idea. The shape of the combustion chamber was modified slightly in 2000 and that change involved both the heads and the pistons. Locate a 1998 or 1999 engine. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. joeb
What's wrong with your motor? Your heads are good since you mention swapping them. Is it bottom end issues? Hole in block? Bad crank?
KHE
What's wrong with your motor? Your heads are good since you mention swapping them. Is it bottom end issues? Hole in block? Bad crank? My guess is bad headgaskets/pulled head bolts. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
rockfangd
If that were the case why would the heads be questionable about swapping? It takes alot to kill an northstar GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
KHE
If that were the case why would the heads be questionable about swapping? It takes alot to kill an northstar It is possible there are some attachment points on the block that might not be there. The crank sensors are different as well and wouldn't work with the older vehicle systems. I suppose it could be done but it would be a lot of work to get it to operate properly. It's less work to use the correct engine. If it is just headgaskets, the existing engine could be repaired but we don't know what the reason is for replacement of the engine. rockfangd
thats what I am saying. If it was the headgaskets it would be easier just to repair the engine than to replace it GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
