garddog
I have 97 Deville with the northstar engine and the car starts good when cold; when it gets to operating temperature and you shut the car off and go to turn it back on it will start fine for the 1st 15 minutes (approximately) and if you let it go to 30 minutes (approximately) it does a real long crank before starting; if you push the gas pedal it will start somewhat faster but not like it should. I have replaced the FPR , fuel pump, fuel filter, cleaned throttle body and mass air flow sensor, replace crank sensors (2) and cam sensor, also replace temp sensor, cleaned all wiring connection at battery and ground, and replaced the PCM with a different one, however, it was used. Also, no codes come up and this car; its a very strong runner after its starts. I does have 165000 miles on it. Where do I go from here?
KHE
Why did you replace all the sensors and the PCM??? You may have a leaking fuel injector that is allowing unmetered fuel into the engine. Remove the fuel rail with the injectors and turn the key to the ON position so the fuel pump runs. Check each injector for fuel leakage. Kevin '93 Fleetwood Brougham '05 Deville '04 Deville 2013 Silverado Z71
garddog
I forgot to tell you that I did remove the fuel rail and there were no leaks. I replace the sensors because even though there were no code I was told they could still be a problem and the PCM replaced because I got one for very little money. My thinkilng was if the PCM was bad the engine may be recieving bad information.
BodybyFisher
Do not assume that you have a good FPR, my neighbor replaced his, SWORE it was NOT the problem and because of that suffered with the problem for months until I said maybe the new one was bad, it was. This is a classic FPR problem, swap in a known good unit Was yours an AC DELCO or aftermarket? BodybyFisher
Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gage to the fuel rail and check pressures? Have you checked for fuel pump grounds, checked the fuel pump relay problems there would be seen by checking the pressure Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
garddog
I have check the fuel pressure and it falls within the range of acceptance (40-45). However, when I shut the car off there seems to be a place where I'm losing pressure somewhere and I have not check the pressure since I replaced the 2nd FPR. Also, for the heck of it my son and I today pull the fuel rail and one injector today was leaking that was not leaking last week. I did order a new injector today.
