Texas Jim
Taking another little trip... I have been wanting some nice and juicy TEXAS oranges... not those real thick skinned ones, with no juice in them like they grow in Florida and California. The Texas oranges that they grow down in the Rio Grande Valley, are the old fashioned, thin skinned, really juicy ones. Can't find 'em in the stores this year, probably due to the drought that we have been having.... so I will just go down to the valley and get 'em there... Just in case y'all wanted a couple of pictures... . . Wintertime in Corpus Christi... . . . A little boat that the Texas Aquarium has . . . . The USS Lexington.. . . . . Sand Castles.. . . BodybyFisher
Nice Jim, I was in Corpus Christi in 1964 with my parents, always wanted to go back I especially liked Padre Island, I recall clearly a couple of odd things, 1) we checked into a motel that had water that was heavily laced with sulfur, we called it sulfur water and my parents forced us to drink it because it was good for us, and 2) on the way to Padre Island the two lane road had MILLIONS of crabs crossing it, and the policeman said, just drive over them...HUH?, I still remember the noise from driving over them. I agree with Bruce, I was waiting for the DTS to be in one of the photos, you're slipping Jim! littleoletot
Dear Jim, Thankyou for for the pics of your harrowing trip to get esential staples to ensure your survival through the awful winter you are obviously suffering, I assume you had a snow shovel in your boot! (sorry- trunk) It's not that we are jealous over here 'cos as everyone knows we much prefer the wind, rain and snow to the weather you have to put up with, oh no not much ! Actually it all looks rather wonderful, and whilst you are collecting your special oranges we are pressing our apples to make cider to cheer ourselves up. Please keep the pics coming. Thank you for the concern... We only had a high of 83 F today... It is absolutely terrible, the trials and tribulations I have to go thru to get decent oranges... :D I am very thankful that my trusty steed has taken me over 700 miles ...all the way to the Valley Of The Oranges, stayed right with me during the fierce battle with the orange proprietors and then takes me away with my prize... . . Texas Jim
Here are a few random pictures from today... . . . Better hope you don't need to make a pit stop. . . . . Some cactus as we were driving thru the desert...there was about 75 / 100 miles of that... , , . . A little town out in the middle of nowhere... Reckon they don't know Christmas is over.. . . . . You see a LOT of these windmills out on the ranches... pumping water for the cattle. Some of them are over 100 years old... . . . . I kept looking, but never did find "2" road.... . . . . Had a real bad headwind.... Really messed up my fuel mileage... . . . . If you look close... you can see the oranges on the trees... . . . . . Down here in the Valley... almost everything is printed in two languages... Even the signs on the gas pumps... . .
JimD
Enjoy your oranges, Jim. If I were to visit McAllen again, I would be loading up on grapefruit (as in filling the trunk and rear seat area). Texas RUBY REDS are not to be found in grocery stores in Atlanta. Wish I could find my photos of those cacti in bloom! Not to mention the Bluebonnets in April. Keep the pictures coming. Jim Drive your car. Use your cell phone. CHOOSE ONE ! BodybyFisher
Haha, I love the sign next service 60 miles! When we were in Texas in the 60s, locals called that "Just down the road a piece" I also love the Merry Christmas sign, looks like PC has not reached that town, love it, and glad to see that is hasnt Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Ranger
Those windmills are common up here though none of them work anymore. They're just visual relics of a simpler time.
GTOken
Those are great pics. And looks like a fun trip. The dual language signs wont last much longer. They will be back to a single language soon, it just wont be the one we grew up with.
Texas Jim
Well, we made it back home today... Had a real nice trip...even if it was a short one... We were gone for six days, but I only drove about 1800 miles. But, I did get some really nice, sweet, oranges. We mostly just piddled around. We didn't really have any place to go and we didn't have a time limit on when to get there... :) After leaving the lower Rio Grande Valley, we drove up to Houston to pay my Brother a visit and then went to SE Texas and visited with my Mom and my two Brothers that live there. Fuel mileage was mostly in the 21 to 23 mpg range. This morning it rolled over 111,000 miles... . . . . . And of course, in a little bit it was 111,111... . . . . . And a little later... . . . Reckon that's about all for now, at least till the next trip...

Texas Jim
Nice milestone catches, Jim Thanks Mike... Now I just need to figure out where to go next... Texas Jim
GM should purchase your engine and analyze it closely given the type of driving you have done. I would agree to that... assuming they put a new engine in my car... Then I wouldn't be worrying about all the miles I have put on it... There have been days out in Nevada, Utah and Arizona where it has ran for hours and hours on end and very seldom was under 100..... The NorthStar is a great engine... Texas Jim
I love your enthusiasm and love your enthusiasm about this engine. Its certainly is amazing. Since I have had the DTS... a little over 6 years now... We have went on various road trips with different friends and relatives at various times when we were all going to the same place... like a reunion or a wedding or something. Most of them have smaller "ECONOMY CARS" that still "RUN REAL GOOD" and get "REALLY GREAT" mileage... at least to hear them tell it... :) On the trips, if they try to run with me, at even a moderate pace, most of the other cars don't get all THAT MUCH BETTER mileage than the DTS does. A few of them are SOME better, but not near enough to make me want to trade the DTS for one of their cracker boxes. And if you on a two lane road where you have to pass other cars... it will sometimes make you cringe, when they pull out to pass and it seems like it takes "FOREVER" for them to get around and back in the correct lane after passing. With my NorthStar... you step on it... it drops down a couple of gears, you hear the Northstar song as it winds up, and in just a very few seconds, you are back on "YOUR" side of the road... not on the "WRONG" side of the road. And they don't have Tri Zone climate control or a nice smooth quite ride or really comfortable, leather 8 way power seats or Air Conditioned seats for hot days, or large trunks for all of your "STUFF" or room to stretch out and be comfortable or big back seats for other stuff that you want handy, or space between the front and back seats where the 12V fridge sits with cold drinks, candy bars and other goodies, or anyone of a myriad other things that make it a CADILLAC... :) If it is a very long trip, at the end of the day, when we get to where we are going, Darling Wife and I are ready to go out and eat, maybe drive around and look at things, maybe do "STUFF" and everyone else just wants to go to bed or at the very least... just REST, because their car has completely tired them out... just riding in it all day. That's just one more reason why I like my Cadillac... It takes care of me and doesn't beat me up when I drive it all day.... :P It doesn't make sense to me, but they sacrifice all of that for a few MPG better than I get... LOL I would rather pay another 5 bucks a day for gas then go thru what they do.
GTOken
Jim, what you just typed are *the* very reasons I sought out the car I bought. So far it has been everything I expected.
