Texas Jim
I reckon anything is possible... but I have never heard of a water pump LOCKING UP... Have you tried turning it by hand??
BodybyFisher
If you can turn it by hand as Jim said it is fine. It could have been the tensioner pulley going bad. Let us know if the water pump is seized Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
Ranger
Highly unlikely. I'd bet the tensioner bearing seized. Be sure to use the proper puller and installer on that drive pulley. Screw up the cam snout and you are looking at replacing the intake cam.
larryandjen2000@yahoo.com
havent had a chance to look at it yet.as for that puller ,installer. for the cam pulley.is that a dealer item,or any puller will do? i was looking at some posts, and i sould use a new bolt to start it with. is that right? thanks
KHE
The water pump did not lock up but the tensioner puller bearing did. That's what took out the pulley on the camshaft. I helped a neighbor with a 1998 Deville with the exact issue earlier this week. You need a new cam pulley, new belt, and a new tensioner pulley with bearing. You may need to buy the whole tensioner assembly if the pulley is not available separately. The puller needed to remove the pulley is a power steering pulley puller available from any auto parts store. You might find it in the "loan a tool" programs at some of the chain stores. You will also need a metric bolt (I don't recall the size but it may be a M8) and a stack of washers to install the new pulley on the camshast. Do not atempt to remove/install the pulley without the proper tools or you will damage the camshaft.
