I have a 93 deville. I had a clicking sound when I take off to fast, or when I give it gas to fast. The other day i was going up a hill and and somthing happen. My car lost all power to the wheels. I was told a few months back it was an axle. I checked them both, but nothing. Is there somthing else i can do to see what it might be?

The two problems you are having are probably not related, the clicking sounds like axles but the lack of power could be SO many things like a clogged CAT, ignition problem, fuel filter, fuel pump, tranny slipping, etc.

Is it still losing power?

here is an easy thing to check, before I changed my dogbone mounts the exhaust would rattle on the crossbar under the center of the car, it would rattle at higher idle and acceleration.

Where does it sound like it is comig from

Maybe we should start with the OBD codes. On the AC console, press OFF and Pass Warmer simultaneously for about 10 seconds and all the dash light should come on for a couple of seconds, like you just turned on the key. Then, the driver's message center will start displaying a set of codes, one very few seconds. Write them down and post them here.

very vague description of problem. lost all power to wheels? does that mean engine was still running but trans was slipping? or did motor die/stall causing car to not accelerate? a broken cv axle would not heal itself. he said car lost power to wheels, and than what happened? is car on side of road now? get towed home? did it fix itself?

bam777 - please bear with us. It's not easy to diagnose car problems by text message but we have an amazing record of successes here. What we rely on to get started are:

  • We need a reasonable amount of detail in the text description of the problem. For example, what do you mean "lost all power to the front wheels?" This can mean anything from a bad miss or engine stall to a loss of power due to a cracked catalytic converter to a blown transmission. What happened, did the car suddenly become "weak as a kitten" or did it suddenly go in to neutral? Does the engine start and run? Is it OK off-idle but no power when you take off?
  • We rely quite a bit on the excellent on-board diagnostics (OBD) built into every Cadillac since the 1982 model year, and predecessors many years before that. Use the link in my signature block to get directions on how to read out your OBD codes in a few seconds with no tools. You don't need a code reader.

Our assets here include a lot of people with a wide variety of expertise, including some who have Goodwrench training on your model year car, and others who may have had the same problem and solved it.
