Hi!

Mine fuel filler pipe that goes from the tank cap to the gas tank is getting a bit rusty and im thinking of replacing it!

I checked with Rockauto but they didnt have it and neither did Hansen Racing here in Sweden!

Any idea where to get one?

Is it much job to replace it?

I replaced the filler pipe in my '97 Eldorado, it's not a difficlt job. I would suggest replacing the two short hoses that connect the pipe to the gas tank as well. It's easier to cut the hoses off the gas tank than to pull them off.

I had to get the pipe from a Cadillac dealer. I would think that an online Cadillac dealer would ship the parts to Sweden.

I found that gmpartsdirect.com have this pipes and they ship here!

222 USD....for a steel pipe seems like alot!

But it must be replaced before it starts to leak gas when you are putting gas in!

Do you know what size the steelpipe are, maybe i can make one by ,yself instead of paying 222 USD for it!

For my 96, I found a piece called the FUEL TANK FILLER NECK at RockAuto for $109, I don't think its the same as the 95, and they dont list one for 95

Im thinking of replacing the steel pipe with a reinforced rubber tube which is much cheaper and that can be used with petrol ! USD 20 per meter!

Do you know what inside diameter the rubber tube must have to fit to the gastank?

What is the diameter of the original steel pipe and how long is it?

Do you know?

I looked at Rockauto-fuel air-fuel filler neck-extra section for STSv 1995 and the sell Gates gasoline fuel filler hoses with the dimension 1 1/2" x 3´(20 psi) and 36 inch length!

Can this be the hose i want, its seems like a replacement part for the original steel pipe!

What do you think,BBF?

Costs 28 USD

I was unable to find this in the 95 Cadillac STS section, if you have a part number post it and maybe I can find it

GATES Part # 23964 {Gasoline Filler Neck Hose - 1 1/2" x 3' (20 psi)}

This is a general purpose hose it says, but is this the dimensions to go with instead of the steel pipe?

Would be great if you could find out, also if the length 36 inch is enough!

Roger, I dont think you would need longer than 12 to 18 inches.

I have a 96, its possible its different than yours since they didnt show the part available for my year, fitting your year also

If I were you, I would look to removing the part and using calipers measure the two extreme ends of the pipe and see what else is involved, there may be 'breathers' or "vacuum reliefs" involved that must be involved. Also the pipe may have baffles in the pipe to prevent backsplash, etc.

Thanks BBF!

I will crawl under the car next time i wash it and take a look! Its only a filling pipe so i dont think its more than just a pipe!

Why didnt they use rubber hose from the factory instead of steel...gasoline pipes are most times rubber!

Im not paying 222 USD for this thing when i can get a similar object for 20 USD!

Thanks for the help!

I agree with you, if there is an easy way to solve this problem why spend that money. Its not like you are getting something that enhances your car in anyway, its a hidden utilitarian part like the rear knuckles.

I would even think that a tough rubber would be good in a collision.

However, I think the pipe is galvanized steel, you will notice that when you see it

Here is some info on galvanized steel

Sorry I couldnt help more. Ill would call the scrap yard, but they seem to corrode. I wonder if a newer STS pipe would fit your year

Another though is to remove the pipe and take it to a muffler shop. They may be able to bend up a pipe to fit and weld the top (gas cap end) to it and it would be as good and strong as new.

My thought is to cut off the cap tank end and then clamp it on the rubber hose, hopefully its not so rusty at the tank cap end so this part can be reused!

Must only get under the car and measure how thick hose i need!

  • 4 weeks later...

Update!!

Now i have replaced the fuel filler neck hose and i am never doing it again....what a nightmare!!!!

Its almost easier to buy the OEM part at gmpartsdirect.com, cost 222 USD!

First i unscrewed the cap holder plastic thing, very easy only 3 bolts, then pulled this out from the body!

After that loosen the two hoses in to the tank...also very easy!

Then came the problems...

You cant get it out as it is...i had to cut the steel pipe in the wheel house...u also have to remove i

the inner splash shield in the left wheel hose to gain access to the pipe!

Very tight to get my hands bove the rear axel and loosen the clamps so i simply cut it off and removed it!

Now it was pulled out completly from the car!

The rubber hose that i bought to replace the filler pipe was 32mm inside and 44m outside diameter, and it fit right on the filler neck who is 32 mm pipe!

But my problems were at the fitting at the tank..the diameter on the supply pipe at the tank was 39mm???? Not 32mm like my hose!!

No problems i thought....i just use a drill to sandpaper the hose to 39mm inside diameter.....easier said then done!!!

After a couple of hours with the drill i gave up...the darned hose wouldt go on....

So i used the old rubber hose and cut a 2 inches long piece from the fillerpipe and joined this with my new hose, so that the old hose faced the tank again...!!

After nearly three hours of screaming and cursing under the car it was done...its as usual a minimum of space to work with your hands but now its done!!

I havent filled any gas in it yet, but there are no serious bents on the hose that would complicate filling fuel!

Im gonna start removing the ac-system tomorrow, so i guess i will have fun with that also:)

Filled the tank up today and it worked fine!! No leaks found either!

I also spent yesterday with removing the entire ac system except for the evapoator who was left in place!

Removed pipes, condenser, compressor and dryer..fairly easy job except when removing the compressor!

I will post pics soon!
