Giving Diagonostic codes 741 and 1860. Bill 12 Have mine in transmission shop now, waiting for the bad news. Had a different shop tell me it was common and that the solenoids need replacing. The transmission shifts 1,2,3 but the torque converter won't lock up for 4th gear. They tell me it is "okay" to drive gas millage will drop. I, among others, can walk you through it if you want to get your hands dirty and save yourself about a thousand dollars. Simple tools, time, patience, and $50 is all that's required. Ever since the codes came up i've been trying to find a friendly mechanic in my area who'd be willing to do a side job... I'm not as rich as most Caddy drivers. I too have this problem!!! The car runs and shifts fine but the check engine light is on and throwing the code - I for one would love to do this my self but not sure what it in-tells????? KHE Posted September 8, 2010 Report Share Posted September 8, 2010 Do you have to remove the tranny to do this job? To replac the TCC solenoid, you don't need to remove the transmission but you need to drop the cradle enough to remove the side cover of the trans. If the problem is worn seals in the turbine shaft assembly which causes the trans fluid not to activate the lockup feature and/or excessive slippage of the torque converter (which heats up the vicous silicone fluid and ruins the torque converter), then the transmission needs to be dropped to R&R the torque converter.
