Pull the parking brake up with your hand while the car is in drive and see if the light goes out

Check to make sure that the plugs are plugged in at the front hubs

Check the ABS unit to make sure that the rectangular plug is seated properly its tricky to seat properly, check to make sure the single wire is attached to the side of the ABS unit

P1571 - Traction Control Torque Request Circuit

U1041 - Loss of EBCM Communication

C0710 - Steering Position Signal Malfunction (check plugs at steering rack)

Check all plugs first.

Keep in mind that I am telling you this from my 1996 powertrain experience.

The parking brake pedal is inside your car, pull it up when in drive

Each wheel has a hub bearing. In the front the axle runs through it. These hub bearings also provide rotational speed for the ABS system. If you get under the car you will notice a wire coming of the hub bearing behind the brake rotor, it should be plugged in. Check both sides to make sure they are plugged in.

Here is a photo of the hub bearing, the wheel is bolted to it when its in place, notice the wire coming off of it its laying in the black tray on the ground

EntertainmentNotice006.jpg

This is a photo of the ABS unit, lower left shiny, you see a row of electrical connectors at the top, make sure that the rectangular plug is securely plugged in, its tricky

2 motor mounts... one in the front and one on the side... side one is a motor/trans mount.

I think its normally the front mount that goes out.

yup.. my front mount was horrible.. i wish i would have taken a pic of it.. i know i had three of them replaced, the front middle, and two on the sides

Dana, these codes are not good.

Here is where you can get you codes

http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2p.html

The P0731 is not good > P0731 - Incorrect 1st Gear Ratio

P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1

P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2

Both banks being lean means you have a vacuum leak someplace, check for hoses, like the vacuum booster, etc, how is the driveability.

I hope that the P0731 is left over from before, clear it and disconnect the battery, and see if it goes away. I hope they changed the tranny and replaced it with the correct version, how is it shifting?

so far havent had any problems yet.. but didnt drive for a long period of time yet.. i cleard the codes and disconected the battery.. they came back.. its weird because i never had any of these.. which makes me think they didnt plug something in.. i could be wrong.. i will check the connections you told me to check later, do you know which vaccums to check and does anyone know where they are located? it drives ok, i was told i need rear shocks, and sometimes when i hit a bump, commin from the left side i hear a sound like rubber rubbing against something. the steering wheel still gets stiff after driving for some time. i also know i need outter tie rods.

stiff steering and bad tie rods? shoud have replaced the rack when the trans was out. it does sound like a lot of things were left unplugged or perhaps not unplugged when the cradle was dropped and that resulted in the wire harness being pulled and or torn.

Dana, as I mentioned over the phone, check for grounds that were left off. You really should get the car up in the air. There are a couple of main wiring harnesses that have grounds disbursed throughout them.

Here is that thread I was talking about with regard to the lean condition. When they pulled your engine out they could have damaged the plenium rubber collar see my post #6 in this thread to see its location >> http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=17516

Listen carefully its possible they cracked the intake jockeying the engine around also, listen for air sucking sounds. Look for vacuum leaks, like the brake booster hose, etc

Ok so i checked out the abs box and hub sensors... everything was connected, but there is a gray latch that wasnt down completely on the connector that went into the abs box. i did notice some light green grease over a lot of the parts on the right side of the trans (see pics). i disconnected the connector, reconnected it then disconnected the battery and the lights were still lit. i then shifted the trans with my foot on the brake firmly. the lights went on and off as i switched thru park, R, N, and D. i then noticed that they stayed off after shifting for about the 6 time. i turned the car off, let it sit for about two min and then back on and the lights were still off. i drove about a quarter mile to a gas station and the lights stayed off. i went back to where i was and parked for about 30 seconds. drove about 3 blocks and the lights came back on with the SSS message. Then after another 5 blocks or so i started to get the service trans message. i got home, parked the car and ran the codes. some new and some old... dont understand why i keep getting different codes almost everytime i drive.

Great, great transmission shop. Creates more problems....

At least, hopefully, car now has the correct trans.

Someone did not get paid for this job...

#1 pic is air pump.

#2 pic is air pump intake hose.

#3 pic is bottom of air pump, missing bottom air pump cover.

#4 pic is failed CV axle joint hose clamp. Now, as can be expected, slinging grease.

#5 pic CV axle failed clamp, slinging grease.

Jeezzz...

Put a big *smurf* hose clamp on it. I doubt the car will feel the clamp there..

You've loss some grease. But mostly likely ok.

Bad clamp. I expect grease to be slinging all over..

Something else...

In picture #1. I can see the ground.

Hopefully, you removed the lower close out panel to do this.

Did you remove the lower panel for inspection? If not, your lower panel is missing, along with the bottom of your air pump.

Great, great transmisson shop...

i saw some where in a post where it was said that a batt voltage of 14.8 is high.... mines is usually right around there, usually when the car sit for long periods of time and then i start it up i get a high rpm 1000(i also hear a noise similar to a vaccum, and can feel some movement of the engine), then after about a minute or two the rmp drops to about 600 or so(noise goes away). also before i bought the car i remember the guy telling me that the radio wasnt working and that it was something with a wire or something. he said he had a mechanic to look at it and got the radio to work, could they have possibly did something wrong with some wiring of the radio(cd changer doesnt work)??

Strange the P0731 is not covered in my manual, so I did a net search and found this. This is not the answer just clues to think about

I still question as to whether this is the correct tranny

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/17115/P0731

Maybe someone has the ability to search this code (P0731)
