I think its time to sell

Recommended Posts

I think I've decided its time to sell my Eldo.

I really don't have a clue what I should ask for it. Here's some general info:

101k miles.

Car is white - true white - not pearl. Interior is neutral leather.

Body and paint are great - I'd say 9 out of 10.

Wheels are from 04 SLS - 5 Spoke aluminum - from Cardio-Doc. Tires are 3 year old Goodyear ComforTreads with minimal miles. I have and will include the original wheels.

Interior is very clean - normal (good normal) wear on drivers seat, but otherwise very clean.

Items that are new in past 3 years are:

* Struts and shocks (AC Delco passive)

* Radiator, thermostat

* Plugs, wires, 2 coils

* FPR

* Motor mounts

* master cylinder

* ISC motor

The bad things are:

* Typical northstar oil leak - mostly pan gasket and timing cover, some case half.

* unresolved momentary clenching noise that I dscussed recently in a thread - I've ruled out possible ABS cause for this.

* Service ride control codes (5) - 1 for each strut/shock and 1 for the RF wheel position sensor that goes in and out of range.

The Good things:

* Exceptionally clean and original. No rust or sunburn.

* Car appears to have been kept inside most of its life.

* Temps are very stable. No signs of head gasket issues.

* Runs good, shifts good, drives good.

What's it worth? Heck if I know. If it didn't leak oil and didn't have the brrrrt issue, I'd say its an all original survivor in outstanding condition and ask $3,850. With these things I'd like to say $2,850, but the current market may not bear that. For a sale to someone who knows and appreciates these cars and will give it a good home, I'd probably be flexible. I know its dumb to be sentimental when it comes to the value of a car, but the car is too nice to wind up in the hands of someone who'll destroy it.

Guess I'll stop here and see if anyone has any comments.

Mike if you get to Fort Worth I'd be happy to drive over and visit. Let me know more if/as the plan comes together. If we're lucky we can trick Texas Jim into buying the first round.

BBF... if you come down here... you can also drive my car. I am not sure when I will get to NY.

I will take a little time off work... to meet everybody.

I would be more than happy to buy the first round. :D:D

JackC... maybe we can meet beforehand... and conspire against them...

We can buy the first couple of rounds... then we go to the Cattlemans and they buy dinner. :D:D

Sound like a pretty good plan to me. :D

Three Texan's and a lone New Yorker are you are talking conspiracy? :lol:

It should be fun, I need to get rid of my car to do this. Jack is going to try to figure out what that brrrrr noise is, maybe its exhaust related. I am excited about driving 1650 miles home, what do you figure Jim, 16 hours? :lol: Think that I can check my tool box at the airline gate for the ride home? :blink: Honestly sir, this 18 inch breaker bar is needed for my return trip..in case I throw a belt... :lol:

If this happens it will be fun to meet you all.

You expect to average 103 MPH to make 1,650 miles in 16 hours?? :lol::lol:

This whole deal could tempt me to invite myself to the party. I am always looking for a reason/excuse to make the trip to visit with old (and new) friends in North Texas.

Lunch at a Dickey's BBQ is a big magnet for me because BBQ in GA is all about ribs and pork. A decent chopped brisket meal is not to be found over here. Don't get me started on what passes for Tex-Mex food in GA.

Go for it, Mike! And an after Labor Day schedule would be "really good".

I expect Texas Jim to tell me that its "just down the road a piece and about 16 hours", :lol:, and it might be for HIM, :lol:

That would be fun Jim, lets try to make this a get together, if the pick up time is good with Jack, it makes things easier for me, I will probably get more for my car if I take my time..

Mike,

Actually it would probably be closer to 19 or 20 hours. :D:D

1650 miles divided 80 mph is 20.6 hours.

You will have to stop several times for gas and pit stops and snacks. Anytime you slow down it totally KILLS your average speed. :D:D

It would be GREAT if several of us could get together for a few hours.

Lunch at Dickeys sounds good to me. I would whole lot rather eat BEEF then pork any day.

Come on JimD... heck... I will even buy your dinner at Dickeys, if you can make it. Don't stick to just chopped brisket... get some sliced brisket also and some good baby back ribs to go with it all.

Take advantage when you can... I don't offer to buy very often. :D:D

Wow - it sounds like we've got an event coming together!

Mike - I had a college buddy that used to drive non-stop from Lubbock ('bout 5 hours west) to Westfield, NJ. They left at night, drove all day and into the night again. He said they'd start hallucinating the second night as they were driving through the mountains!

Our baby is in the shop today getting a few things checked over. I think I'm beginning to feel some performance anxiety over my mechanical/caretaker skills!! If we drag this out until labor day who knows what all I will have had done to the car!

Texas Jim - getting together sounds good. It might be nice for Mike to get a third party's opinion before we drag him all the way down here.

I started the process of selling my car. I called a dealer in Virginia that expressed an interest in my car last summer when I pulled into their lot to buy an AC part. The salesman said that the older Devilles were in high demand. The used car manager will be in on Monday and I will call him. In the meantime before I drive down to show it to them, I need to do the following:

1) front engine mount

2) windshield

3) repair the front seat spring

4) repair the passenger seat reclining motor, its intermittant

5) replace the RR rotor

6) detail the heck out of it

If they are not interested, I will work to sell it locally and in the VA area via Craigslist.

Hey Jack, if Bruce or Jim wouldn't mind looking it over (if they are nearby and its not a problem, that would be great). Thanks, Mike

A very generous offer for my Dickey's fix and thank you. If it all falls together I will be there with at least one of my Texian friends.

I have put the fuel costs ($0.17 per mile) in the July - August budget.
