BodybyFisher
Adallak, cracked exhaust manifolds on the 4.9 are very common. They are hard to find in scrap yards due to the demand from the cracking problem. Your exhaust manifold has a casting number on it, use that to find a replacement. You will find the casting numbers listed on car-parts.com. If you decide to replace it, try www.car-parts.com to find one, post your casting numbers and I will call my friend to see if he has one.. Thanks, Mike. I'll look at it. I was just wondering if it would stay one piece say, for a year or so... I was happy my 91 Seville costed me some $200-300 per year in parts, fluids, tires etc. But that number increased drastically this year, and I am getting more reluctant when it comes to more or less expensive or/and time-consuming repairs... Cadillac Jim
My feeling is that if it's not leaking, let it go. When you start to see a black halo around it, then you need to plan how to replace it. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. Ranger
I am sure it will stay in one piece. Hard to tell how much room there is from that pic, but any chance it could be welded in place?
adallak
My feeling is that if it's not leaking, let it go. When you start to see a black halo around it, then you need to plan how to replace it. The crack is two inches long, but if it goes around the corner a part of the manifold will just separate. Hopefully it will not happen. I was thinking of kinda bandage just to prevent a leak. The saddest thing in life is wasted talent

Ranger, I believe there is enough room for welding. But I want to wait and watch. If it gets worse and I smell exhaust in the cabin it will be the time to make a decision. gc_caddy
You can probably seal the crack with a high temperature product like: http://www.amazon.com/Exhaust-Manifold-Rep...g/dp/B000E4HWLW Then see if you can weld a bracket below the crack to support it. (Or, maybe hack something up with a couple of hose clamps and metal bar)

If it can be welded, I'd do it now, before it gets worse. The old "Once of prevention" adage.
runar
That's the crack I found recently. Should I replace the manifold or I can live with that? Thanks in advance for advice. Hi. I got one from Cadauto.com in Sacramento for 125.00 plus shipping. Good people to deal with. If you are going to weld, the manifold should be removed and mounted on a 3/8 steelplate, to stop from twisting. It is easy to remove, just get the fans out to give you some room to work. Mike Thanks for all the input, gents. I will keep an eye on it. Welding seems to be an option but if it should be removed any way I would probably go with a replacement. Thank again.
