dotbowels
My 03 had Michelins that showed no wear at almost 50K miles. My 2006 DTS , at 16,400, has half the treads gone on 2 tires and about 30% is gone on other 2. Never needed new tires with Michelins I have been rotating every other oil change. At what point do you replace them? Tire Rack is closing out the tires for $59 plus shipping. I could buy 4 and replace 2 right away or should I wait a while and bite the bullet for 4 Michelins or something comprable. Thansk
joeb
tirerack is not going to sell these tires that wear out at about 20k miles? i wonder why? do you like the tires except for the fact that they do not wear well? if you like them otherwise, buy another set. or try something else. tires wear out. a different brand could make the car handle better/worse. you gotta try something different every now and than. BodybyFisher
I am a big Michelin fan. I am very surprised that you are experiencing uneven wear given that you are rotating the tires often. Soft compounds have good wet and dry handling but as you experience they wear quickly. This is a complaint about the Michelin Pilots (which I love). I would imagine that the fast wear is the reason Tirerack is heavily discounting that tire. I was in Costco last week and saw a Michelin Pilot® XGT® H4 for $99, I had that on my 91 Seville and it was amazing. Personally I would wear out the tires you have and put a good set of rubber on it. Keep and eye on them as they wear your wet handling will degrade! If you can manage it, I would replace them with your favorite Michelin as soon as possible. Check the Hydroedge out, good wet handling, long wear and it is quiet something your DTS can appreciate. Where do you live, what kind of weather conditions? Where do you live, what kind of weather conditions? Dot, Get the best tires you can afford. Do you know about the treadwear ratings that are stamped on the side of all tires? Starts at 100 and goes up. The bigger the number the longer wearing the tire is. I agree with BbF. I have Michelin Hydroedge on my Taurus. It came with Continental's which wore out REAL quick. Less than 30,000 miles. The Hydroedge now have over 50,000 miles on them and still have good tread. The 255x50x18 inch Bridgestone Tuaranza's on my 06 DTS are wearing pretty good. Have over 18,000 miles and they show very little wear. Only problem I see is they are expensive to replace. They don't yet make the Hydroedge in 18 inch. Maybe by the time I need tires on my '06 DTS they will.

BodybyFisher
Gotta watch those WOTs racing HEMI's from a red light, dot! That will shorten their life... Seriously though, do you know if the rear is wearing faster? I wonder if this is the same differential as the CTS, Bruce?
