zleasler
I bought an STS on EBAY (big mistake) 95,000 miles The problems Im having are: Engine Jerks going down interstate just once then runs great and cuts off sometimes when I am idleing, but does not have the power I would expect out of a Northstar. CD Player constantly reads CD ERROR I had the Diagnostic test ran on it this morning the codes pulled were P0385, P1258, and P0335. I have had the Fuel Filter changed it did not fix the problem. I was thinking Spark Plugs any suggestions.

BodybyFisher
Just as I thought Crank Sensor problems. You will need to diagnose the crank sensors. P0385 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor B Circuit P0335 - CKP Sensor A Circuit Performance P1258 - Engine Coolant Overtemperature - above 268°F - Protection Mode Active Were these codes CURRENT? The P1258 concerns me a bit. Check your coolant immediately. Do you have a warranty? With this code you might want to check for combustion byproducts in the cooling system. This is an ominous sign. By the way you can check your OWN codes see this on how to check your own codes: http://www.caddyinfo.com/readingcodes.html Here is where you can find out what the codes mean: http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html You said you had a diagnostic test run on it, how? Who did it? As I noted you can pull your own codes no need for handheld reader or autozone... My car ran hot about two weeks ago due to a shreaded belt that wasn't turning my water pump on. would the sensors cause my car to sputter a bit? at highway speeds? Would this speed up the car at all you think?

BodybyFisher
The crank sensors will cause you fits stalling etc.. This is your problem. Again AUTOZONE is not necessary. Good Luck, Mike Glad to hear about the water pump belt, I was afraid that you were sold a car with a cooling system problem. I would change your coolant ASAP and use fresh DEXCOOL...also use the cooling supplement (IMPORTANT) Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

chazglenn3
Why do you think it was a big mistake? You probably paid well below the retail market where you live, and it sounds like simple problems with an easy inexpensive fix. New crank sensors and a coolant and oil change and you are in business! Even if the radio is bad, those are also available on eBay for less than $50. Soon you will be in love with the car...trust me. Bill K
Probably not a bad idea to change the thermostat also since the car has overheated or at least gotten hot enough to set a code.
