Texas Jim
Under the intake manifold...
Sebastian09
Your starter motor turns your fly wheel, so you would look for your starter near the back of the engine but in front of the transmission on a rear wheel drive. On a front wheel drive, the engine is turned side ways, so you want to look where the engine and transmission connect. remember the front of the engine is the one with the belt(s) on it. The starter is about 3 to 4 in diameter and about 4 to 6 in long usually black with silver ends and 1 large wire on the back, running to the solenoid on the inner fender near the battery. If you go to your battery and follow the + red cable, it should go to the solenoid and on the other side to the starter.

rockfangd
the starter sits in the vavlley under the intake. It is not bad at all to do. Remove beauty cover, intake, fuel lines, plugs, and intake. then replace the starter. PAUL T
Take the beauty cover off, unhook the spark plug wires & fuel lines from the fuel rail. Remove 8 or 10 Intake Manifold bolts lift it and the throttle body out together and there it is. There may be a few wires to unhook too. Very easy to do. When you go to put the Intake back in, check the reusable gasket and the mating surfaces to make sure it has a good seal. BodybyFisher
Rock, how did that happen to your intake? Also, were your heads off?, I am not being critical but from the photo, it looks like the intake ports mating surfaces have been cleaned with an abrasive of some sort, is that true? When I clean the mating surfaces, I try very hard not to scratch the mating surfaces, seeing that photo just freaked me out as its counter to what I have learned. Again, I am NOT being critical, it just differs from what I have been told. rockfangd
thats ok. I replaced the intake due to a faulty blow by valve. It had a vacumn leak and a high pitched whistle. That was the old intake. it doesnt look smooth in the photo but it is. must just be the pic. also heads were on. only thing removed in the pic was the intake manifold. Everything looks new because I had the engine pulled last february to be timeserted, sealed, and redone. Larry Huffman Sr
After disconnecting all the hoses fuel lines in the wiring and taking all the intake bolts out what else could be holding intake down where it won't lift up
rockfangd
once all is removed it should lift right off. If it does not then something was missed. 4 studs. a number of bolts. Did you get the nut at the egr valve for the rail? Quote GM FAN FOREVER Nice, clean, luxury= fine automobile
