Allante North *
I am picking up a 1993 El Dorado with a bad intake manifold. From the description I got, it blew up and is cracked. Do I need to replace it with a 93-94 manifold, or can I use a newer one. Anyone ever had this problem or hear of this happening? Thanks in advance, Don
BodybyFisher
It is my understanding that a severe back-fire through the intake can crack the intake. The intake manifold is Nylon 66 thermoplastic, which helps cool intake air by conducting less heat from the engine. You will need to utilize same intake manifold, as the computer will be calibrated for the stock intake. Allante North *
Thanks for the heads up! I plan on finding an intake manifold and either keeping the Northstar and tranny for a spare or selling. The El Dorado body will undergo a massive transformation with a tubed frame and cage plus a Cadillac 500 CID powerplant. Conversion from FWD to RWD with a glide and some other goodies. Should be one heck of a sleeper when done.
JasonA
Don, I believe you'll have to use the intake from a 93-94 car, as all the EGR connections and others are designed for that two-piece design intake. The 95+ cars use a totally different design. Good luck! Good to see you by the way! Jason(2001 STS, White Diamond) "When you turn your car on...does it return the favor?" Allante North *
One more question. How do you tell if an intake is a 93-94 versus other year intakes? I have a contact on another board that has several, but dosen't know how to tell the difference. He is using Northstars in land speed cars like at the salt flats and Maxon, NC. Thanks again, and if anyone has some pictures would be great.
KHE
The '93/'94 intakes were a one piece (aluminum or magnesium) design that incorporated the beauty cover as part of the intake. 1995+ designs had a separate plastic beauty cover and the intake itself was also plastic. Ranger
Kevin, I thought the '93/'94 had the injectors, rails and FPR inside the manifold. If I am correct, how do you service them if it is one piece? Am I confused?

JasonA
He is using Northstars in land speed cars like at the salt flats and Maxon, NC. Don, there is a nearby old Air Force Base near me called "Maxton AFB", and I bet this is the same place your friend is talking about. I hear rumors that every once in a while, they open up the runway and have a measured mile setup and you can see how fast you can go from 0 to 1 mile. Do you or your friend have any information on that? I'd like to run my Seville at the top end once (~112 mph), and my brother would sure like to see what his C5 would do with a mile of legally open road. Allante North *
Jason, I will check and see if I can find the link I saw last year on Maxon. If I remember right, you have to have a chute mounted to the car and there were some other factor that might keep us from using that facility. I look around and get back to you on this. Don Maybe this link (with pics) will help. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/showt...4626#post554626 Thanks Ranger, I started that one on the Cadillacforum site to cover all the bases. The 93-94 Manifolds may be hard to come by. I wonder if they (95-present) can be made to work? I'll keep looking and hope one turns up. Thanks, Don Jason, Here is the link about maxton, nc. http://www.ecta-lsr.com/faq.htm
