My 93  Deville 4.9 has been stalling out while driving.

Engine warm and will die when slowing down or pulling up to a stop sign.

Will Imm. restart tho.  It does it with a/c on or off.

Engine runs smoothly.  NO codes either

Idle air control or failing ICM?

Ideas?

Did this start after the blower replacement?

Almost sounds like a pickup issue. Losing pickup signal causing engine to stall. Could be ICM related, typically fail either where the pickup plugs into it or by heat. Most of the time I find they either will not restart until cool, or not at all.

YES.............

Started after blower install.

I checked all connectors and such.

Maybe the idle air control?

There is a 4.9L idle learn procedure that is suppose to be done after a battery disconnect and other repairs. I would look in the service manual for the specific procedure as different vehicle IPCs and computers etc were used based on the exact vehicle year and platform.

Most folks don't do it....or the car seems to work fine not doing it. But sometimes it does fix the stall problem.

This is posted on this site.....but I think it's the E/K 4.9 procedure.

I completely agree. There are other GMs that have the same issue, mostly resolved by 96. I do not remember this ones procedure but I do believe it was unique to this engine. Should be easy to find though

Hmmmm

I do note a code 52 when doing the diagnosis also.

Well the old battery did go dead and I had a new one installed after blower replacement.

Then the stall started.

Checked a wiring, hoses etc. and they seem secure and in place.

So I will give the reprogram procedure a shot.

I DO HAVE A cADDY service manual also.

I know the procedure can be a pain in the butt. Been there before. I have fought issues with IAC motors and they make me want to pull my hair out when they do not cooperate.

What is it currently doing?

Driving along  ........ release acc. to reduce speed.   Engine stalls

SO WHILE COASTING, slap into N and turn key.

Starts rite up and have to press on acc. pedal to keep running at times.

Starts fine cold no noises..........

Bet it is that idle learn procedure........... Prob didnt do it rite.

will try again.........

Gotta hold off today...

Well guys

It looks like sucess!

After trying both Logans and Rocks posts and links and not finding the procedure in the GM manual

I figured I would start fresh.

I disconnected the battery then did the procedure Rock posted.

IT WORKED!

Runs and idles fine................

Thanks again Logan and Rock!

Excellent. Glad to hear. This can also happen if the ISC gets unplugged or if you clean the throttle body. Just fyi

HEY ALL........

Havent repost on my stalling problem.

Been busy with buying a new toy!

Bought a 84 Corvette for summer fun!

Got a one owner garage queen from a guy locally.  62k miles

Paint is real nice n shiny, runs well, typical drivers seat rips, warm a/c, needs tires.

Paid $4500 for it.

Will get to the Caddy issue shortly!
