Broke off my Door Cladding

Recommended Posts

Well i broke off my fragile drivers door cladding.

I pulled it in the garage to check underhood stuff and opened door and the

edge caught on my generator edge.

Of course didnt realize and closed door and cladding fell off on floor.

Seems all the lower 4 screws that go thru the bottom of cladding and into the

plastic clips that are mounted to the door screw holes are broken/hogged out.

Well i guess a bit of Gorrilla hot glue and some brackets are in order for a cobb fix.

Face of cladding has a big V crack on the face too so that will need sum fix also.

Too cold n snowy here in NY to go parts yard hunting.

Will wait till I hit Florida to do some parts hunting.caddy%20door4.jfif?psid=1&width=1366&height=613

Well this is the cobb fix with metal strips and  hot gorilla glue.

Door plastic clips or studs not broken on door face so the cladding should

re-attach with no problem.  Hope it lasts till I find another white 92-93 the

pic a part to get a unbroken one.

Will post when I put it back on.

Well got the door panel all finished or so I thought.

I forgot the metal cleats.

(metal cleats glued to the inside of the cladding and attach over the clips on the door)

So hot glued them in place.  Now I gotta wait till they cure and I can install.

Heading to Atlantic City next week so gotta be ready!

D*M..........

Went to install my cobbed up cladding and all the gorilla glued on metal fell off the panel when i tried to install it!

Cracked more too...........

Still in NY and snowed in the past week and cold as ****!

I prepped the panel surface with a little scuff sand and a wipe of prep-solve before I used the hot glue.

Figured it would give glue a good bite on the plastic.

NO DICE!

Gonna sent it with my bud to the body shop.

He has that 2 part Fuser stuff they use to glue on panels in the shop.

Those clips wont pop off again !

BTW:  I have heat problems again!

PIC........1st attempt

I realized that I contributed greatly to my side panel's demise by ignoring the car door slamming onto unretracted safety belt buckle.  It is completely shot on my Eldo but I caught the inception of it on the Seville as a buckle-shaped indentation in the side panel with a clip just dangling on the obverse of the pocket panel.  If anyone else lose loose seatbelt, I would urge you not to ignore it because it will ruin your side panel pocket and mar the nice clear coat on the door jam something gnarly with each collision between buckle and door jam.

Well...........

My cladding is still broke and no white Deviiles in the local yards here near Syracuse.

Found a replacement in white on line (you guys know who hes is) for $175 plus the ride.

Will be in NJ and Fla shortly and hope to find one in the local yards there for  $20.

I think i am gonna need another climate control unit also.

The used one I bought A while back at a yard in Roch. NY display is flashing

and the fan on-off-hi-lo is wonky.

I am gonna pull the TWO broke units i have off the shelf and open the guts up

and check for bad soder joints and test.

Thats not a bad idea. You may find something obvious.

I went to my local yard looking for a few parts but as huge as the yard is, there were no caddys ranging from 80s-90s. Just 05+. There used to be tons of them back in the day
