Can someone please tell me where the AC orifice tube is located on my 1997 Cadillac Deville.

I would very much appreciate it

Thank you so much. I figured that is where it was. Just wanted to be sure.

Well went to replace the orifice tube today and ran into more problems.

There is a line splice just forward of the orifice tube. It was not installed properly and the seals were damaged. The tube was clogged and broke on removal.

I have no idea what the reason for the splice was but I have to replace part of the line now. The side that attaches to the condenser line.

So I guess no AC again

There is a way to remove the broken orifice tube. The splice should be easy to repair but the orifice tube being clogged is indicative of compressor failure.

Break off the screened end of the orifice tube and insert a fairly long drywall screw into the middle of the orifice tube until you "feel" it BITE hard into the brass expansion tube. Hold the drywall screw with diagonal pliers or "side cutters" and tap on the pliers with a hammer, the orifice tube should come out. If the screw comes out repeat until the tube comes out . If it is REALLY stubborn I keep going bigger in diameter with the screw.

Remind me, didn't you replace the compressor?

THERE IS ALWAYS ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB RIGHT - THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH TIME TO DO THE JOB AGAIN !!!

In this first picture it shows the splice and the end I have to replace. The ferrel is right at the edge of the line which is not right. Not fixable.

Yes  I replaced the compressor. I  got the orifice tube out. I have a very slim needle nose that pulled it out.

So that splice caused nothing but more problems. It must have been a issue from the time it was done.

the splice is too close to the orifice tube location in the pipe. So if you put the tube in the pipe then try to install the splice the tube is too big for the center section of the splice.

So I cringed and decided to put the orifice tube on the other side of the splice on the threaded fitting side. It fit nice and snug, and went together good. It bottoms out in the center section of the splice. The tip of it  just goes into the other line (line to condenser)

I will vacuum and charge it again tonight and pray. If it doesnt work I give up for now. I will likely have to replace the evaporator. I will post a pic in hopes that what I just typed will make some sense

Why not go to the junkyard and get a replacement line and eliminate the splice?

The fitting to the evaporator must go underneath the hvac cover.

I dont see any easy way to get to it without removing the cover which would likely crumble.

I vacuumed and recharged it last night and it blows ice cold now.  Just hope it stays cold. If it doesnt there must be a leak somewhere still

Update. Was nice while it lasted.

My UV dye helped me find another problem.

I was changing my belts and found my waterpump tensioner was crooked. so I replaced the tensioner and when I looked down I found the line that runs from the compressor to the condenser is bad. The crimp where the line goes to the hose split and is leaking. The entire line was covered by a loom otherwise I probably would have seen it before. So very temporarily to keep the hose from blowing off I put 2 hose clamps around the crimped section.

I believe it is number 7 in the illustration. GM#25647835. Which is the whole assembly from the compressor to the dryer, and compressor to condenser. I am exhausted with this car lately. It seems it is always something. That is the price we pay of owning older vehicles

I hear ya, this 98 I am working on has become a full time job, last night his 95 went dead at the grocery store, power at all, I went this morning and his negative battery cable was corroded, 5 min fix.  I think the cable needs replacing as the end is worn out
