1965 deville body to 1967 frame

This is a difficult question I believe. I do know this however, every two years in those days, the body style was radically changed, 59 and 60 are the same, 61 and 62, 63 and 64, 65 and 66, 67 and 68, etc.... Personally, I do not believe that a 65 and 67 are the same, 65 and 66 yes, but not 67. That is my educated guess, but you can always get them both up in the air and measure the frame

The impala convertible frames were different than the coupe/sedan frames so I would guess the same be for cadillacs. As for years, unless there was radical changes I believe they would be the same. For example devilles and fleetwoods used the same frame from 77-96 even though the body went through a lot of changes. The 65 to 67 was only subtle body changes so I'm sure they are the same besides the convertibles extra strength.

It might pay to look this over, it may be that 65 and 67 are more alike framewise than I thought although, there is discussion of improved perimeter frame in 66

Convertible bodies are far less rigid than coupe or sedan bodies because the roof isn't there for cross-bracing. Nearly all cars that offer convertibles have extra bracing in the frame to prevent excessive flexing of the body/frame on the road. Cadillac may have built the same frame for the convertibles and the Coupe DeVille because the Coupe DeVille is a hardtop (no B pillar) and because Cadillac often builds more rigidity into its body/frame than other marques, and the Coupe DeVille frame may have sufficient rigidity for a convertible.

I would *strongly* suggest that you put both cars on a lift, take measurements between body mounts and other important points for cross-fitting things, and examine the frame itself for differences in size and strength of different members, such as the transmission cross-member, the X-rails that the drive shaft goes through, the front cross-rail that supports the engine, and the rear cross-member that supports the rear of the body. If you spot significant differences in the body mounts, or if your measurements between different body mount points differ, you might want to look for a 1965 convertible frame.

In the distant past, I've heard of aftermarket sources for frames for vintage cars, made on order to original specs, for reasonable prices. Does anyone know anything about where prices might be looked at?

I imagine a new frame with suspension will run 8k? Local guy on CL has a 84 coupe deville body for sale. Is on rack now. Shaved firewall, 100% new paint. Asking 1500. Says hood, fenders, core is available but not painted. Pics look good. I wonder if he has frame somewhere?
