Engine appearance cover

Recommended Posts

Ok I expect everyone to smile and laugh. My '97 Deville engine cover won't come off. The bolts turn and cover raises up the two near the firewall came out but the other two just spin and spin. Oh I can't wait to hear the suggestions. I'm ready to cut away at it. HELP!!!! :)

The front bolts seem to be stripped. Try pulling them out with a pair of pliers.

they are either stripped or the whole intake bolts came out which sucks because they wont pull out as they are held down by the fuel rail. Basically there is 2 studs on the front.

They hold the intake, fuel rail, and cover down. Sometimes when the nuts are too tight it can loosen the studs from the intake. As for removing them I havent had any luck with easy removal once that happens. If you can hold onto the stud from underneath the cover you may be able to get the nuts loose

I have an idea. sometimes it works.

Tighten the nuts till they are tight. Hold consistent pressure down on the beauty cover and try to loosen the nut on one side. The pressure may hold enough on the stud to hold it tight. If it works repeat on the other side

rockfangd's Idea work. Tighten down all until the bolt came thru the top of the nut. Put some wd40 on the the nuts. Started with the front nut and vola the nut came off. Did same with the other front nut then back nuts. Changed spark plugs and wires. Will get new nuts but for now used the ones with the hole on top of the nut and tighten lightly. Thanks to everyone for the help and for ideas. Cheers!!!

thats great but wow I dont know about tightening the nuts that tight. I would loosen and retorque the 2 studs to make sure you have not overtightened them

Keep in mind that those studs hold the intake down, over tightening them as rock says is not advised you could damage the intake or the intake seals. If I recall, the torque is 13 ft lbs but check, it sounds like you may have torqued it way more than that. keep in mind that you are tightening into aluminum. mike gives a good suggestion with the thread locker.

Great tip will remove the studs (the nuts are loose now) and will make sure to tourque to the spec. Going today to pick up new nuts. Runs great with the new plugs and wires. Again thanks to all for the ideas and suggestions.
