BodybyFisher
A friend of mine recently fell off her back step that lacked railings and she was hurt badly. She asked me if I could install railings for her. I went to Lowes to see what that had and they had a display by Gilpin, Inc. http://www.gilpininc.com/index.html I called them and had them send me a catalog since no one at Lowes had info nor could they answer questions. I spoke to a tech guy at Gilpin named Ron Laurent, he was very helpful in helping me with what components I needed to order from Lowes. It was suppose to take 3 weeks and I had the materials in 1 week. This project was a lot harder than I anticipated but it came out great and I learned a lot. I used a Hilti hammer drill and used a template that I made out of oak to make sure that I got the 5/16" bolt holes consistent. I used a product called PC Concrete to anchor the 5/16" 3 inch long all threads into the concrete step, see the PC Concrete here http://www.pcepoxy.com/our-products/concrete-repair-and-anchoring/pc-concrete.php I used 5/16" stainless steel Acorn nuts and washers so that it did not rust. I bought a metal cutting blade for my chop saw which was helpful. Here are a few photos, I hope this is helpful: Step with template in place Holes drilled in step All holes Studs in PC Concrete Epoxy Completed Job! BodybyFisher
Thanks Guys, I just looked at the finished job, and it looks like the top railing close to you in the photo is not level, let me assure you that its level and the posts are plumb. I actually had to go back to my high school math to do this job. I bought the stainless steel acorn nuts at MSC Direct, $29 for 24 nuts...ouch, but I got them down from $5.81 each which was outrageous Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
