pcm/fuel pump fuse

My 1994 Fleetwood was blowing the pcm/fuel pump fuse, now that its not blowing the fuse it won't start. New fuel pump in February, new filter last weekend. Been all in , up , under & around car including the dash. How do you check the pcm ?

Can you hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds when you turn the key on??

Don't confuse the fuel pump and the level ride compressor.

If possible, remove the gas cap... hold your ear down close to the filler tube and have someone else turn the key on.

This is probably a bad fuel pump, relay or wiring, and nothing to do with the PCM

Thanks , fuel pump is working, gas coming through to the point on flooding engine . I have spark, it runs about 10 seconds then shuts down. Seeing that the pcm reads all functions.to start-up the car I think its the problem. If not I welcome more ideas.

Have you checked for codes that may have been set?

No codes, if pcm is bad may not give codes & if its the cause of blowing the fuse may not retain info. I really have done everything else but drain the tank & see if a short maybe coming from the wiring there. Pcm may not be able to read anything.

If the PCM was bad you would not see it have gas or spark, much less run for a few seconds. It is sounding like a fuel pump relay, but that would throw a P0231 and possibly other codes. Exactly which fuse was it blowing? Have you changed that same fuse just in case the one in that slot now is bad?

Ok, this is where it stands . Pcm/ fuel pump fuse kept blowing (4) total. Found that sending unit had burnt wiring. Now I have changed sending unit, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel relay, pcm/ fuel pump fuse & ignition module, checked spark on injectors all good , no water in gas good. Still won't start. No problems before any of this, so if anyone know what else to check besides distributor which is behind the water pump & changed with full tune-up 15k ago let me know. Only 113,000k on my 94 would love to keep it @ least that much more.

It's a mistake to just keep replacing parts until you get lucky. Every time you replace something that isn't bad, you introduce the possibility that some little thing like a connector pin pushed back into the connector has added to the problem, and of course you waste your time and money.

Are you still blowing fuses? If not, are you sure that the wiring is hooked up to the new fuel pump properly and that all the connections are good? Are you sure that the new fuel pump is good? Without OBD codes and your diagnosis that the fuel pump was bad but has been replaced, there is not much else to suggest.

I know you said that you have no codes, but have you run the codes from the A/C buttons? Only the really urgent codes that have no obvious symptoms to the driver, such as the loss of an ABS sensor, display messages on the DIC by themselves. You start by pressing the A/C OFF and PASS WARMER buttons simultaneously for about five seconds. See the link in my signature block for a Caddyinfo page on doing this. The OBD codes will tell you whether the fuel pump is getting power sent to it, and many other things.

Well I understand what you're saying. I've been listening to a friend of mine who's worked for Cadillac dealership in Tulsa for over 20 years as a mechanic, but he's 2 hours away & another one online. I know its something simple I can fix myself , just have to find the problem.

get a fuel pressure gage and watch it when the engine begins stalling, to see if that is the cause. In addition report your fuel pressure here key on and running psi.

A large vacuum leak can cause the engine to stall like this also, like the EGR valve wide open, etc
