hllywud2420
My wife has a 1992 seville sts that feels sluggish on acceleration. Check Engine Light came on and she had tech run scan on it. Tech said it came back as O2 sensor and I was just wondering if that could be the reason for poor acceleration? It also has high rpm (around 4000) before shifting gears. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BodybyFisher
You can call up the codes on your DIC, read the codes again and post them all here. See my signiture there is a link to how to read the codes, see them for your year and post ALL codes here Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm

That makes a big difference, someone please change the heading on this thread to 2002 P0385 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor B Circuit P0386 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor B Performance P0420 - Catalyst System Low Efficiency P0101 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Performance B1845 - Driver Lumbar Down Switch Circuit Malfunction C1246 - Brake Lining Wear Circuit Open U1713 - Loss of Front Door Module to Window Motor High Speed Comm I don't see anything regarding O2 sensor was it replaced? The CAT code P0420 could be the result of a bad O2 sensor keeping the engine in open loop thereby causing the engine to run rich and destroy the CAT. But there is NO CAT code current or history. You should check the connectors on the crank sensors, if they are attached and intact, replace your crank sensors. Is the engine stalling intermittanty and starting right back up? hllywud2420
Yes it has been dying sometimes when you stop and you have to restart the car. The O2 sensor has not been replaced. I did drive it up a hill I honestly didn't think the vehicle was going to make it up the hill. It is shifting but it is getting to about 4000 rpm before it shifts and it has really no power even if you put the accelerator to the floor. The stalling is due to your crank sensors. hllywud2420
Update: I took it to a transmission shop and the trans checked out just fine. The trans shop owner recommended I take it to a muffler shop for cat conv. The cat conv was stopped up. Had new cat conv put on it and it runs like a dream again. Thanks for all the information from everyone who replied.

Also, don't forget you need crank sensors, replace both at the same time Now that you see how valuable caddyinfo is, consider joining as a supporting member to help support this great resource Pre-1995 - DTC codes OBD1 >> 1996 and newer - DTC codes OBD2 >> https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/gm/obd_codes.htm How to check for codes Caddyinfo How To Technical Archive >> http://www.caddyinfo.com/wordpress/cadillac-how-to-faq/ Cadillac History & Specifications Year by Year http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/index.htm
hllywud2420
The cost of replacing was $189.74, it was an aftermarket converter. I will be getting the crankshaft sensors replaced and also the valve cover gaskets. I set an appointment with my mechanic for next week to fix those issues. I will definately become a supporting member of cadillac forums.
joeb
Who said the VC gaskets were bad? They are silicone and fairly robust. I would think the case is leaking first. Any oil leak is annoying and most are pricey to fix. Ask ur mechanic how he liked changing rear VC gasket. He might punch you.

Had it replaced under the GMPP warranty, along with having the half case seal replaced.
