Please help ASAP with Deville purchase!!!

Recommended Posts

I tried negotiating and he was firm on 6200. Not saying I can't try again. The car looks so good I think he knows he can sell it on looks alone.

I'd pass on it if he won't drop the price $3000.00 off the KBB private party price for the TCC repair... There are plenty of Devilles out there that don't have that issue.

My take on the seller is: He KNOWS all about the cost to repair the car and that's why he is selling it. He was hoping buyers were not as informned as you are. Personally, people who sell cars that need a major repair and do not disclose it to a prospective buyer are one of the lowest forms of life....

I was intentionally being hard on you, don't take me personal

No worries Mike, but could you please explain what you mean by that?

Yes, those are the codes, but probably not in the order presented. I had to restart the DIC many times to get them all. I was not prepared for all those. Like I said I wish I would have just videotaped them so I would know which ones were Current. Most were History. Yeah, I looked most of them up yesterday and I think they were battery related as well.

It looked to me like you packed it in too easily that's all. It appeared that you took the granade statement seriously.

Typically that many codes is the result of a bad battery, that must be eliminated first before going further.

Here are the pics just so you know why I'm in love with this car. I've always liked the Diamond white. Are there many used caddies out there that look this good?

No, but I did take those $3900 repair bill receipts I saw here seriously. The grenade statement was just icing.

For shits and giggles I'll offer him $4K, I might even offer him $5K but I already know his answer. Yeah, he's a crook. I hate dishonest people and I hate dealers!

Oh well, the Earth still spins!

The problem is that he will find some unsuspecting buyer, who will look at KBB and have no clue.

I would have the battery checked to see if the majority goes away

Last night I bought the Caddy! After some back and forth negotiations we settled on $5000. He reset the codes and after a long test drive all the weird (battery?) codes were gone - but the PCM P1860 was still current. IPC U1000 and IPM B0429 were also current. DDM U173 and RIM C0658 were history, no other codes. The P0741 code was there before I reset the codes but hasn't yet popped up again. I suspect it will though. I checked the coolant for exhaust gases using the Autozone block tester and was all good there. Carfax looked good.

This morning I read the manual and realized the SES light was supposed to illuminate with the key ON. Well, that light has apparently been disabled somehow. All the dash lights come on except the SES light. I called the seller and of course he was clueless as to having knowledge of that or how it could have been disabled. I feel duped in that regard, but I'm not too worried about it being I live in a no-inspection state and I will probably never sell it....I plan to drive it till the wheels fall off. I'm probably gonna live with the TCC codes if it's not a wiring/connector issue, at least until things get worse, so I'd prefer the light to be out anyhow, but I would like to know how it was disabled. My stupidity for not having picked up on that before the sale - live and learn, but I probably would have bought it anyhow. I really love this car. A LOT!!! I've never felt this way about a car before. It runs and drives great and looks gorgeous. There are a couple standard maintenance issues that need to be addressed I may need help with. I'll ask those Q's in another post in a day or two. Thanks Mike for the encouragement to not give up!

Hey,I am glad to hear this. Congratulations!, that is a beauty! Have you had thebattery checked out? Its possible the car was sitting the battery got weak andhe jumped it to start it and the codes set.

Let us know how you want to procede.

Getting the TCC solenoid fixed is not and expensive problem, they can TILT thecarriage to get into the side pan

Amazing how different this '02 is compared to my '94. I still love my '94, but she's developing problems that are cost prohibitive to repair. She served me well though!

What sort of problems are you having with your '94?

.

All sorts of problems.

1. #1 main bearing "thump" seems to be getting worse. Used to be more prominent when hot, but now its more full-time under load.

2. Had the low oil pressure - shut off engine warning couple months ago. Motor's finally going I guess. Used Lucas engine treatment and it went away. I know what you're gonna say... "snake oil", but hey it worked. Figured I had nothing to lose and I'm glad I tried it. The Lucas Translip also worked on our minivan (was recently totaled RIP) so I'm now a big proponent for Lucas products. I'll tell you guys later about the minivan - amazing.

3. Struts and shocks are shot

4. Rack is leaking and squealing.

5. Original exhaust system and its getting a lil' louder now.

6. Rust bubbling through under the fuel door.

7. Over the years more door dings have beaten her up than I can stand looking at.

Other than that I love her. She's been my baby. But it's time to move on. Being my wife's van was just totaled she's driving the caddy till she finds another car. I just picked up my son a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 SE and were sharing that for now. So my wife and I both need a car. Fun!!!

The #1 bearing thump can be fixed with the purple service bearing. None of the repairs are that serious but taken together, they add up in a hurry.

Had the battery load tested and it checked out fine. The connections looked good but I did not remove the terminals. Most of the weird codes are gone now so I think I'm good with battery.

Nice car !! What is the doo dad at top center of rear window?

Interior is cleeeen. Gotta thank folks that care for their cars !

That is the ultrasonic backup system. When backing up as a fixed object is approached, the LEDs will go from yellow and then red as the distance between the car and the object is reduced.
