jndnaps
I was just wondering, do I need to have the chip in the key? Will the car not start without it? I just want to make a spare key, but don't want to pay $30.00 for a spare. Is $30.00 the going price for a chip key for a 96 DeVille? I never had to get one made before. jndnaps
What's a reasonable price for a key? Dealer wants $45.00 and a locksmith wants $30.
Cadillac Jim
Go to your local Ace Hardware. They sell car keys with chips. -- Click Here for CaddyInfo page on "How To" Read Your OBD Codes-- Click Here for my personal page to download my OBD code list as an Excel file, plus other Cadillac data -- See my CaddyInfo car blogs: 2011 CTS-V, 1997 ETC Yes, I was Jims_97_ETC before I changed cars. jndnaps
My local Ace wants almost $30.00 too. I was looking on the net and found out I can get a blank for just under $12.00 I checked the Ohms and it came to about 1400 so that would be a #6.. That way I could get it done for about $15.00... There are just some things I refuse to spend a lot of money on. I understand they gotta make a living, I just don't wanna buy them a mansion too.. joeb
but do those websites sell cheap keys that are gold?
jndnaps
I don't need no stinking gold spare key. I stopped by my mechanic and he had one of those thingies that you put the key in to check. He said it was a #10 key. I believe he's right. I don't know how to use a darn ohm meter. Cadillac Jim
The gold keys went out of style around 2000. I found some gold keys online, but no #10's that I need.
